The survivors, brought to their senses by the disaster, gave chase to the woman: she, laughing in mockery, changed herself into a wren and flew away.

(On Peel beach, which in my view is basically the best beach in the world and it's certainly very pretty, you can - and should! get an ice cream at the famous Davison's Ice Cream Parlour.)

Data centers are pretty normal light industry with some good things about them and some bad things about them. In some places they’re a good deal for people living nearby. In other places, they are not. Follow this account for more scorching hot takes that leave no sacred cow ungored.

This is an odd product. It feels like it's selling upper middle class people in business business jobs the chance to feel like they're wealthier than they are. Which I guess probably makes some money.

Now "looks pretty decent and well-designed to a superficial glance" is not a useful filter, it's a lot harder to filter out shit.

Somewhat irritating how many "free utility" websites nowadays are deeply vibe coded. I mean it makes sense, I get the incentives, but in some cases I would rather have no solution at all than a solution that only half works.

The hard truth is we have implemented every centre-right nostrum, from slashing local government through conditionality of benefits to junking resilience measures for society and the economy - and as many predicted, it all turns out to be very costly in the long run.

I think there do exist people who, yes, I agree are part of the problem, but who can be prevailed upon in this way. It feels somewhat grubby to ask this of those who dwell in the grey but it can matter.

The clinical notes about the Ordinary AWE presented in the first game contrast here with Dylan's experience of what it felt like to live these events. The segment has a real unease to it that the graphical style really adds to. It feels like you're playing an old game but seeing a seedy side to it.

The standout segment of the game to me is the "Ordinarybound" section. A sudden shift to a different genre and style is very much a thing that games do nowadays but I thought this was executed really well. As a way to re-tell and recontextualise the story of the ordinary AWE it was really great.

The fact that that abuse may ultimately have had a paranatural origin is beside the point. Things are more than the things they are, anyway.

To finish this thought: Dylan in fact is likeable and eager to please because a desperate need for approval and affection from authority figures was deliberately cultivated in him by people who sought to use him as a tool, and because he's a child of an abusive home. bsky.app/profile/line...

One of my favourite characters in the game was Dr Florez, who provides an interesting view as a normal person caught in this mad world yet retaining a moral centre where others are thrown about rudderless in stormy tides. She's everything the FBC isn't - perhaps she's closer to what it could be.

ʟɪɴᴇꜱ @lines.ink · 28/09/2026
Dylan's response to the proclamation that the FBC will find some to make up to Dylan what they did to him ("You can't") is an indictment of the entire edifice of control that is the FBC.

The choice to recontextualise Darling not as simply a somewhat kooky but ultimately benign "mad scientist" - a stand-out fan fave character - and more as, ultimately, an abuser and an enabler of abuse, is a brave one. It's not actually telling us anything the first game doesn't, but makes it text.

ʟɪɴᴇꜱ @lines.ink · 28/09/2026
In doing so, it is blunted against the unrelenting hammer of the Hedron. It's interesting to think that it is possibly this force or resonance into which Casper Darling transcended shortly before the first game.

Dylan gets his own version of that sequence and yet it's not, I think, what I might have been afraid of, a simple male power fantasy. He learns that instead of holding his anger and rage at what was done to him deep inside so it can't hurt people, he can learn to accept it as part of him.

ʟɪɴᴇꜱ @lines.ink · 28/09/2026
However, Dylan really surprised me. He's likeable, eager to please, in a way that at first seems like the blank acceptance of the role of Protagonist in a way that Jesse literally refuted in the Take Control segment of the first game.

ʟɪɴᴇꜱ @lines.ink · 28/09/2026
The choice to change out our female protagonist for a male one was one I was pretty wary about and given how she ends the game - in a coma with her doomed yuri possible lover talking to her about how much their relationship meant - those misgivings were somewhat well-founded.

control resonant very good. the more and more i think about the themes of this game and the choices that it makes, the more rewarded I feel. this is I think a game I liked more than its predecessor though really they are, ah, two parts of a whole. or perhaps there will be a third.

I think gesture is the right word (and I don't mean that in a dismissive way). There's space in the experience of being J/D Faden for them - ah - resonate with different people in different ways. I think Remedy are adept users of archetype and ambiguity in this way.

I am pretty convinced that it was playing Severed Circle 2 obsessively that separated Jesse Dylan Faden into Jesse and Dylan Faden. This doesn't make the trans reading not also extremely strong. Certainly there are things that don't quite fit. How did Jesse and Dylan talk in the slidescape?

God Control Resonant was so good. Found Dylan a likeable main character with a good supporting cast. It really did things that are unique to videogames as a medium.
