A #WALeg Senator who is a real estate investor and financial advisor said tax credits for working families won't make a difference. I know a lot of people in his district who will benefit from this bill, because working families have to count every expense while his party cuts the safety net.

Opponents to the #WALeg Millionaires Tax are relying on 1930s interpretation of late 19th Century constitutional text. Here is the unofficial 1878 Washington State Constitution, which uses the phrase "class of subjects" in the sentence under debate. What is a "class of subjects"?
Image shows handwritten 1878 unofficial Washington State Constitution, showing the article on Finances, Article XII, Section 2, which reads "All taxes shall be uniform upon the same class of subjects within the territorial limits of the authority levying the tax; and shall be levied and collected under general laws, which shall prescribe such regulations as shall secure a just valuation for taxation of all property, real and personal."

The opposition to #TaxTheRich can't get it's talking points in order: AI tech bros threaten to move to "more attractive business climates [like] San Francisco," while the @wsj.com warns #WALeg is "putting their economy and jobs at risk if they follow the California [model]." So which is it? #1u
Text from a news article reads:

"Ferguson’s email came a day after a dozen leaders involved in artificial intelligence ventures sent the governor a letter, urging him to “pause” the income tax legislation and increase the state’s capital gains tax instead. They warned the income tax would stifle AI investment in the state, with companies lured instead to more attractive business climates in San Francisco and Texas.

"The Wall Street Journal editorial board seized on the letter, writing that it reflected “A Tech Tax Revolt Against Democrats.” In an editorial published yesterday afternoon, the board argued that Washington state “Democrats are putting their economy and jobs at risk if they follow the California ratchet of tax, spend, and tax some more.”"

#WALeg opponents of taxing the richest <1% of Washingtonians misrepresent the state's spending, which isn't even in the top half of the states in expenditures divided by personal incomes. See ofm.wa.gov/data-researc... Working families are better off when the state provides good healthcare, etc.
Map of states in the United States titled "Comparing the states: state & local government expenditures per $1,000 personal income" that shows Washington State in the lowest expenditure per personal income category.

#WALeg representatives seem to have forgotten the word "landlord" and are using three words instead. Let's keep it real and use the correct word: www.commondreams.org/opinion/land... This isn't "just a different philosophy," it is clearer language.

If @governorferguson.bsky.social wants to back out of the Millionaires Tax in 2026, then #WAleg needs to pass the Wealth Tax and Well Washington as well as the Millionaires Tax. Working Washingtonians can't wait while Ferguson cuts health care, housing, childcare, schools, and good jobs.

In #WA, working people with the lowest incomes pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes than the wealthiest. That is an upside down tax system because the highest income earners have the most ability to pay what they truly owe so that we can have good public services like schools. #waleg
The image is a graph showing total taxes as a share of family income in Washington State. With bar graphs where the lowest 20% of incomes pay 13.8% of their income in taxes, and the top 1% of incomes (family income over $878,400 per year) pay only 4.1% of their income in taxes. This is labeled as a regressive tax system.

New Yorkers, who have been living with rent stabilization policies for decades, love tenant protection laws because they are good policy to help people stay housed and strengthen our communities. Time to pass rent stabilization in #WA, #waleg.
An article published in City and State New York says "New survey finds almost everyone supports rent stabilization." The article then says "A report from the Community Service Society found that 88% of Democrats and 75% of Republicans back rent control measures and nearly as many support 'good cause' eviction laws." Below the headline is a photo of many people holding signs that say things like "homes are for rest" and "skyrocketing rents? Give it a rest!"

It's concerning that @governorferguson.bsky.social thinks that cherry-picking $70k maintenance projects will fill a $12b (+/- $2b) budget deficit. 1st, the scale is off: there would need to be 171,428 of these deferred carpet replacements. 2nd, deferred maintenance just shifts costs. #waleg

Clallam Transit's bus ridership is now higher than pre-COVID levels, thanks in part to zero fare for all passengers on most routes. Clallam Transit will soon be re-doing the Port Angeles, WA bus routes to have 15 minute bus frequency across town, which will be the best headways west of Puget Sound!
Graph showing annual bus ridership for Clallam Transit in the month of January, annually from 2016 to 2025. Ridership was around 60,000 passengers from 2016 to 2020, but then dropped during the COVID pandemic to about half that in January 2021. Ridership has increased since then with January 2025 exceeding the previous amount at about 70,000 passengers.
