This looks really useful. Thanks for sharing! I can relate to the work of making these one by one 😊 We recently shared almost 2K THINGS-based Mooney images with pre/post-disambiguation ratings. Hope they’re useful alongside MooneyMaker! www.nature.com/articles/s44...

This is super cool 🫶. So the hippocampus preserves semantic geometric structure but also increase the distance in the neural code for highly similar/confusable concepts. And context here seems to set where a representation is located in that space.

Thank you so much! In this case, congruency levels varied across pairs. And I fully agree, that is a relevant question to investigate (and we will take a look in this data, thanks). In fact, we are working on a paradigm trying to exactly address that point.

We therefore think generalisation may be better understood as an expansion rather than replacement of retrieval routes. Would love to hear what people think! Thanks to everyone involved and the fundings that allowed this work.

Memory transformation may not be a single movement from episodic → schematic. Instead, different properties can change partly independently: - the cues that can access a memory - the details that remain accessible - how prior knowledge shapes reconstruction
121
Juan Linde-Domingo @lindedomingo.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Importantly, we did not find any reliable coupling between cue-generalization, perceptual accuracy and typicality bias.
110
Juan Linde-Domingo @lindedomingo.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
We also asked whether this typicality bias was simply what happens when episodic memories become weak. But It wasn’t that simple. Stronger item-level memory strongly predicted whether participants recovered the correct perceptual target but it did not regarding typicality bias.
110
Juan Linde-Domingo @lindedomingo.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
But when participants did make perceptual errors, they were not random. Errors were strongly biased towards more typical exemplars of the object category, and this category-driven bias became more prominent across delay. Memory reconstruction was therefore increasingly shaped by what was typical
120
Juan Linde-Domingo @lindedomingo.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Importantly, this did not look like memories simply lost details. Even after 48 h, participants could still identify the exact perceptual exemplar that had originally been encoded. So increasing generalisation of retrieval was not accompanied by an equivalent loss of access to perceptual detail.
120
Juan Linde-Domingo @lindedomingo.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Early after learning, the original image was the best retrieval cue. But this advantage progressively diminished. By 48 h, a never-seen more-typical exemplar triggered retrieval as effectively as the original image. In other words, access to the memory had generalised to schema-like content.
110
Juan Linde-Domingo @lindedomingo.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
We tested this in a preregistered study (n = 177). People learned associations between objects. After 6, 24 or 48 h, we cued those memories using either: • the originally encoded image • a never-seen, more typical exemplar • a never-seen, less typical exemplar

Online Now: Neural reactivation supports memory formation when events end
dlvr.it
Neural reactivation supports memory formation when events end
Memory routinely transforms continuous experience into discrete episodes that support flexible retrieval. We propose that these structured representations are established via rapid neural reactivation occurring at the completion of an event. A growing body of evidence across tasks and recording modalities shows that event termination elicits rapid reinstatement of recently encoded neural representations. We review findings revealing that end-of-event reactivation is a robust and functionally meaningful phenomenon, describing when it occurs, how it is measured, and which neural signatures characterize it. We propose that neural reactivation at event offsets offers an efficient neural mechanism for stabilizing newly formed traces against interference, binding relational features into a coherent event index, integrating episodes into pre-existing schemas, and preserving temporal continuity across events.
