Closer ties with Europe would help our economy grow. It’s good to hear Andy Burnham making that case in Berlin. The upcoming UK–EU summit is a chance to make real progress. We’re looking to the government to make the most of it.

I’m fed up with politicians saying we need to “respect” the result of the 2016 Brexit referendum. A decision by a narrow majority 10yrs ago, that turned out to be a costly mistake, does not have to be “respected”. If a democracy cannot change its mind it ceases to be a democracy.

As more and more of the Government come out in support of rejoining the EU, it is clear that the political taboo around Brexit is beginning to fade. The support from the public, politicians, and the EU is there, so why aren't we making repairing our relationship a priority?
Cabinet ministers privately pushing to rejoin the EU. Some ministers have been privately lobbying for the party to take a bolder stance on forging closer ties with the EU. The I Paper, 18 May.

Speaking to the Guardian, Sir Keir Starmer also said that he doesn't intend to "get lost in a debate about what may happen years down the line" and would rather "make sure we are closer to the EU" now. But how can we ensure that our future is European if we refuse to talk about it?
We inherited a really bad Brexit deal that Boris Johnson negotiated. It was a botch deal.

It doesn't work for businesses, it doesn't work for the country. Sir Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
