The world is objectively better because tufted ground squirrels exist.

worth applying to politics as well. when you're criticizing an action people take "taking the better action next time" is only one of the alternatives people will consider, and worth remembering that "not bothering at all" is another.

Is there a Go Fund Me (or some equivalent) for the families that were the victims of the Wednesday ICE raids on the apartments in Chicago? I usually try to be very deliberate about my contributions. In this situation, I'm saying, "Screw that, I want to help those people."

Q: "How do you respond to Governor Newsom?" Sen. Van Hollen: "I think Americans are tired of elected officials or politicians who are all finger to the wind...Anybody who can't stand up for the Constitution and the right of due process doesn't deserve to lead."

I've always been one to think more about ethics than honor, but I'm in no mood to forgive those who dishonored my country today. Here you are, you tough-guy posers.

This is *not* the time to restrict our channels of communication. Now particularly we need to be able to goad our representatives into displaying some moral leadership.

Trump just ordered 2 dams opened up in California in an unprecedented move that risks depleting the reservoirs ahead of the dry summer months. And the kicker? The water from the dams doesn't even flow to Los Angeles.

I've chosen Rebecca Solnit tells us: “[T]he fact that we cannot save everything does not mean we cannot save anything and everything we can save is worth saving." I've used this quote as the epigraph for this account. My first post is the Fox River at dawn--a photo of something worth saving.

A view of a river with bare trees along the banks. There's a grey and pink dawn sky. The water is still, and there's a thin layer of mist over water.
