Here's what we're talking about. See that cliff? That's when developers started seeing their leasehold lands forcibly converted to fee-simple. No Surprised Hawaiian Trusts lost big and lotta speculators won big. files.hawaii.gov/auditor/Repo...

We exist to give Locals a fighting chance against this, 39.9% of units in Hawaii are investor owned. investorpulse1h25.batchdata.io

A quick intro as we're the new kids on the block. We're all volunteer but will be building policy briefs over this legislative session. You can check out more at limbyhawaii.org/policy-stubs/
LIMBY stands for “locals in my backyard”

We’re a group of locals who are fed up with the same failures being repeated for decades.

We’ve charted a path for affordable housing that puts locals first and we’re excited to share it with you. There’s a lot of short-term actions we need to take, like tenant protections.

But the main thing we need is to create a market that serves locals, not international and CONUS buyers.
Please, no ad hominem attacks.

We’re not YIMBYs. Underpinning a lot of YIMBY economic modeling is this insane assumption: in the absence of government regulation land prices would be zero.

That has never been true, in fact land prices are the whole issue.
No. LIMBYs support building. We just believe that what we build is as important as that we build.

We think it’s unconscionable how many affordable housing projects are blocked.

Project by project skirmishes aren’t the fix though, what we need to do is fix our speculative land market.
