I feel like Ketchum could easily mentally no-sell exposure to eldritch/blood-soaked horror part of it but I think he'd be oddly picky about how the violence was dished out. i.e. horrified of guns, somehow okay with crushing a deadite's skull in with a log

Ketchum does come off like in a less-nice world he's a "These hands are E for everybody" kinda guy but you'd have to really power scale him off the "writers/animators don't know/forgot the material" stuff where he's lifting 200+ pound pokemon effortlessly or able to do caber tosses.

Ash Williams would probably fall ass backwards into being a good trainer but only if his pokemon were all first evolution, so they were all in their "asshole teenager" phases. Ketchum could barely handle that but I think Williams would revel in it.
