As NION Women, we care about being a society that leaves no one behind, where everyone can feel safe and fully participate. That includes trans+ people, who have been increasingly blamed for problems they didn't cause - and who have faced growing hostility for the best part of a decade.
We want to take a moment to acknowledge all the trans people, their families and allies who are currently wading through 300 pages of legal guidance to understand how it affects them and the people they love.

The newly published EHRC Code of Practice leaves trans people in the UK today with less rights than they had prior to last year’s Supreme Court ruling. Read our full statement here: transactual.org.uk/blog/2026/05...
Text reads: Updated statement on the new Code of Practice.

The newly published EHRC Code of Practice leaves trans people in the UK today with less rights than they had prior to last year’s Supreme Court ruling.

Not only does this new guidance fail to protect the rights and dignity of transgender people, but appears to have weakened protections for the LGBTQ+ community as a whole. Rather than engage with our community with respect, the Government has instead withheld publishing its new Code of Practice until as late as possible.

Full statement on our website Text reads: Updated statement on the new Code of Practice.

TransActual will continue to fight for equal access to public life for all trans people, and will publish our full thoughts on the new Code once we have had the time to properly scrutinise it – something that the Government seems keen to avoid.

The screens display a tranquil theme of rippling blue water and soft pink clouds, punctuated by bold, large-scale typography with phrases such as "OUR HISTORY RUNS DEEPER THAN MOST REALIZE" and "CHANGE HAS NEVER STOOD STILL." Interspersed throughout the digital space are vibrant illustrated panels showcasing diverse global Trans+ stories and historical figures, such as Japanese politician Aya Kamikawa and composer Angela Morley. In a white box in the centre it says "Important information for people on the Sandyford Adult Gender Service waiting list" There is an illustration of a megaphone. At the bottom is the Scottish Trans logo.Sandyford informed us on Friday that they intend to start a ‘waiting list validation’ from today. This means that they will be contacting everyone on the adult waiting list to check their details are correct and that they wish to remain on the list. They have already done this exercise for the young person’s waiting list. It is extremely important that if your contact details have changed since joining the list that you contact Sandyford to update them.

People will be contacted in stages, so you might not be contacted straight away. If your contact details are correct, you do not have to do anything until Sandyford contacts you. Once you are contacted, you need to respond within 14 days. You will be sent a short questionnaire to fill in. Sandyford have said that reminders to respond will be sent. We are trying to get information from Sandyford about what will happen if someone does not respond.

If you have not heard from Sandyford by 1st June, please get in touch with them.

The EHRC have actively lobbied for a change to the EqA to give a 'biological sex' reading, gave evidence in FWS, which led to that outcome, refused engagement with the trans community, and approved speeches have erased gender. If this were any other protected group, it would be a national scandal.
Screenshot of a paragraph of the published speech on the EHRC website, the text in the image reads "We want to be sure that we won’t be ignored or written off because of our age, disability, race, sex, or beliefs."
