Ah...premises move. An afternoon literally shovelling shit from one place to another. We have at least three times the space and yet it's looking very full...

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

Yup. Also "running on the smell" from time to time, for emphasis

Golden pint yesterday at the pub

The area behind the bar in a traditional pub. Sun is shining through a pint of beer at the far end of the bar

Photographically, quite dull...but kinda satisfying.

A photography dark but for a cut out of the sun with the silhouette of the moon during the solar eclipse.

Today was brought to you by swallows (oodles of them), brown butterflies, red admiral butterflies, hummingbird hawk moths, crickets and grasshoppers...and a load of penny farthing riders.

When I'm chasing something when I'm reasonably sure it's not unreasonable for me to expect it having been done I tend to start with "Sorry to nag..." (anyone who knows me, and quite a lot of people who could guess will know, I'm not sorry at all)

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 11/07/2026

Sit rep: there was scrabbling in the box and the little 'un was moving around. We relocated the box, bunged a washing up bowl of fresh invertebrate-rich compost nearby and tray full of fresh water. Within 10 mins it had wandered off into the border. Seems fine.

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 11/07/2026

This is the hoglet in question. Currently looking pretty relaxed in it's recovery box. Been sleeping for several hours. We'll be putting the box out in the garden once the sun goes down.

Since the incident this morning two things have happened: the bucket collecting next door's gutter overflow now has an improvised exit ramp and I've add hedgehog food to my next grocery delivery. Sigh.

110

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 11/07/2026

Baby hedgehog has mostly slept in the box we found for it - waking only to devour a spoonful of dog food donated by the jack russells two doors down. Seems none the worse for his watery ordeal.

110

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 11/07/2026

That's the thing with getting older, the fact that you have to ask yourself "now what was I doing before I had to help with a baby hedgehog rescue...?"

I have a mental picture of Harry Kane with curlers under a head scarf, and a fag dangling out of the corner of his mouth muttering 'do I have to do everything round 'ere?'

010

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 25/06/2026

Heat warning advice includes "Sleep with a Fan"... Frankly, if a celeb does that, won't that make them feel hotter? (let alone the later hot water)...

000

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 25/06/2026

The solitary benefit of the heat seems to be a reduction in emails in my inbox.

000

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 25/06/2026

It was really well explained and anyone who was listening will be better prepared to critique these particular dog-whistles. Thank you

Fatface? I'm wearing 10 yr old FF jeans (not small size but definitely short)

Team "how hard can it be?" just forged a successful unblocking of the water-butt pipe. Old skool drain rods FTW.

However, it was the same delivery driver who delivered the other half of the consignment (why it was split remains a mystery) and repaid a favour I did for him yesterday. In this case the individual definitely transcended the shortfall of the organisation. Thanks, mate!

000

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 28/05/2026

With modern day transport/courier logistics it's disappointing to find there are still logistics organisations who can't give you timely information. Today: 11am I got an email telling me about a delivery between 8am and 6pm today. /1

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 28/05/2026

It's all very well that gov say "we've put more money into apprenticeships" but what education establishments have done is turn that into "we'll put someone with you, you'll train them and we'll check they've learned stuff" without actually providing teaching. I'm so glad I'm not young./rant

000

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 28/05/2026

Yeah - absolutely this in ALL industries. I work with young people, giving them work experience and work and if you take the time to train them properly (and accept the risks) they pay back that effort most of the time. /1

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 27/05/2026

The great thing about my job @techresort.bsky.social is you never know what you'll be doing in between funding bids. Today I'm shopping for spigots.

000

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 25/05/2026

Today was brought to you by a dunnock family, cheeky jackdaws, camera trap evidence of hedgehog and small blue butterflies. Not bad in this heat.

010

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 17/05/2026

Feel a little bit bad - found this chrysalis in a pot I'm emptying. Put it down to take a picture for identification purposes and immediately a jackdaw came and grabbed it. Oh well, I guess a baby jackdaw had a nice lunch

Got back home last night after time away...this morning it seemed the boiler was borked. Thank goodness for living with an engineer - reads the manual, identifies the error code, huffs and looks online at the problem. Then pressed a button which didn't appear in the manual and boiler appears healed

After 2 weeks or so of regularly listening to R6 during the day (in a shared domestic space), I'm now completely done with the current playlists. As usual, I now have regular earworms.

It's the law in these parts...

010

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 05/05/2026

These are all things that people on low incomes are likely to be without. Why won't they accept voter ID cards?

000

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 05/05/2026

It seems like Apple might be contributing digital exclusion of people who don't have certain sorts of ID or a credit card. The new prove your age requirement only accepts driving license, passport, credit card ...

Most people also have to be in the right mindset for learning - getting rid of the jobs that are worrying them most leave a bit more headspace for other skills

000

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 01/05/2026

This is precisely why, @techresort.bsky.social we provide regular community-based drop-ins for people to learn at their own speed and for the things they need to do most. If that happens to mean transferring photos of a beloved deceased dog to their new phone first, then that's what we do

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 01/05/2026

when they've delivered it to the wrong place, and it's been pointed out not refusing to deliver it to the right place on the grounds that "I've taken it out of the van now and I'm parked illegally" (when the correct place wouldn't have required you to park illegally).

000

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 01/05/2026

Oh good grief! When your organisation "specialises" in delivery logisitics, you shouldn't get this stuff so badly wrong, so often. Perhaps by employing drivers who can read a delivery address and...

But we got here... Nearly pub o'clock

aaahhhhh right, I get it. Thank you.

I remember being taught to ride a bike the first time I realised that he'd let go of my saddle and I was cycling on my own. Today I had the perspective of the person doing the saddle-holding. Working with young, first time workers and you suddenly realise they don't need you holding the saddle. Wow.

Liz Crew @lillput.bsky.social · 09/03/2026

Ooooh! Top tip. Price from usual electronics suppliers @techresort use went from £13 to £36 for 250Gb SATA drives. Just looked at CEX. Blimey. Thank you for saving our refurb work quite a lot of money!

The improvement in the circumstances in our very work class family changed quickly and radically with so many social improvements. I look at my great-nephews and nieces (aged from 0 to 22) and wonder what's the future for them./end

I (born in 1963) didn't have any living grandparents. My dad didn't even remember his father. My dad lived with ischaemic heart disease from the age of 39 - but lived a good life with excellent management of the disease until he was 79. His older siblings died much earlier.

The health/wellbeing/financial inclusion of my family was vastly improved by council housing in Bristol in 1926. My maternal grandfather died in 1930 having already contracted TB - my mum was 4. My mum died at the age of 88.
