It's a real shame, because I had very high hopes for Rewrite being one of the Key works I would end up enjoying most (mostly based on vibes tbf), and it fell just short of that. I will add though, the common route is imo FANTASTIC (as is typical of Key), and it's well worth reading just for that.

but later routes seemed to run straight into those problems again. Moon/Terra I was warned is very polarising, and I 100% understand why. Similarly I enjoyed them on a moment-to-moment basis, but as a part of a greater narrative, I felt it was somewhat lacklustre.

I was left feeling somewhat let down and disappointed. The first two routes felt like they managed to avoid another issue I have with some other Key VNs (that being routes feeling a bit too disconnected, with stuff that should be all accounts happen in all routes only happening in one), ...

I'm still somewhat trying to sort my thoughts out on it, but I can confidently say that all in all, Kotori's route was my favourite by far, followed by Shizuru's. I wasn't too big on the others (including Moon/Terra). I enjoyed reading them, but as parts of a larger narrative, ...

13. Rewrite+ (VN). A VN I had very high hopes for, but I walk away kind of conflicted. Kinda similar to Angel Beats in a sense, where I love most of the individual aspects and enjoyed sitting through it, but also had a lot of misgivings and unmet expectations throughout. I still enjoyed it, though.

12. Zero no Tsukaima (anime, rewatch). Been 15 years since I watched it, and having more experience with all kinds of mediums and "media literacy", I can now confidently see not only that this was the mother of all modern naroukei, but also that it's really just a nukige in LN form. Sick(?)

11. R.O.D: Read or Die (OVA). A fun little spy-like adventure. I had my issues with the way some parts were handled, and the plot isn't much to write home about, but the vibes were on point. Yomiko is a lot of fun, the animation is fantastic, and I'm looking forward to enjoying the TV series too.
