14. R.O.D. the TV (Anime). A good follow-up to the OVAs with lots of very fun character dynamics, as well as a follow-up on what happened to the OVA cast after the events of the OVA. I still prefer the OVA overall, but the TV series was plenty fun too.

13. Rewrite+ (VN). A VN I had very high hopes for, but I walk away kind of conflicted. Kinda similar to Angel Beats in a sense, where I love most of the individual aspects and enjoyed sitting through it, but also had a lot of misgivings and unmet expectations throughout. I still enjoyed it, though.

12. Zero no Tsukaima (anime, rewatch). Been 15 years since I watched it, and having more experience with all kinds of mediums and "media literacy", I can now confidently see not only that this was the mother of all modern naroukei, but also that it's really just a nukige in LN form. Sick(?)

11. R.O.D: Read or Die (OVA). A fun little spy-like adventure. I had my issues with the way some parts were handled, and the plot isn't much to write home about, but the vibes were on point. Yomiko is a lot of fun, the animation is fantastic, and I'm looking forward to enjoying the TV series too.

10. Little Witch Nobeta (Game). Reminded me a lot of Rabi-Ribi (which is a good thing!). I can see the similarities to Dark Souls, but it wasn't as difficult as I thought it'd be. It was quite a lot of fun though, and I'm interested in seeing how (if) the story builds upon this one in a later game.

6. She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man (LN, vol. 1-16). Very fun VR-sekai series. Really nice world building throughout, really fun protagonist. It had a handful of snags throughout, but those didn't impede my enjoyment much. I loved it, and would recommend it if you're in the market for it.

ngl we've been doing surprisingly well. Only a handful of shows we haven't finished in the past 5 years or so (SP just finished today, finally). I'd like to finish up the remaining non-dropped shows someday, though.

5. Shaun of the Dead (film). Had a blast. It felt like a parody of campy zombie movies, something I never got super deep into, but quite enjoyed as a teen. The clever lines and writing, constant callbacks and hinting, and of course the winking and nudging all made this a VERY good time.

4. Fate/strange fake (Anime). This has been one of the most fun projects I've ever fansubbed. The adaptation has its flaws, but I think it nails the FUN factor. The show is a blast to watch, and definitely a Fate show I highly recommend. This may possibly be my single favourite Fate anime right now.

3. Kore ga Watashi no Goshujin-sama (anime). Inevitable I'd watch this because >Shaft, but this is so far one of their weakest shows, both from a story perspective and also production. The finale also kinda ruined some of the goodwill I had. Mitsuki was great, though. She deserves a much better show

2. Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen (game). I enjoyed it, despite getting really bored by the gameplay. Strong cast of characters that almost all get time to be fleshed out, and there's also a lot of very nice SoL scenes. Interested to see how they continue. Also Aruruu's the cutest li'l thing.

1. Tonikaku Kawaii (anime). As a big Hata fan, I naturally really enjoyed this. I strongly prefer the manga for its better art, pacing, and joke delivery, but I still quite enjoyed the anime.

Now, obviously, this does not mean we are infallible (but fortunately, that's what batch fixes are for!). Ultimately, we are not the author, and our work still passes through an additional layer of interpretation. Especially in my case, as an editor with only a basic grasp of Japanese (am learning!)

But beyond character voice, the real challenge is conveying the intended meaning of each line—not just in terms of raw information, but also tone and impact. For a franchise like Fate that prides itself on its prose, failing to account for this is, in my humble opinion, effectively a mistranslation.

One of the hardest parts of any Fate TL, setting aside internal consistency across entries and intertextual consistency, is maintaining character voice. Every character has their own mannerisms, vernacular, common phrasing, and terminology, and all of these need to be unified into a coherent whole.
