There is no infrastructure in the area to support this kind of facility, and the beauty of the area is its unspoiled access to nature. A truly horrific idea, and one I don’t think an even Trump supporting state will like. Outdoor sports and camping are huge here.

Jackson is the closest city. It’s already expensive and overrun with tourists.

I wish more people could see that The Librarians documentary won. Seeing awards being won raises awareness about issues covered by current documentaries.

They’ve pushed these laws as defending parents’ rights. Many parents’ rights are now actually being stomped on. Your kid is ready for an advanced book on space exploration? Too bad. It doesn’t matter if you trust librarians and want to let them check out books from any library section.

So many books on this list are part of the CURRICULUM in many schools, not just in the library. Truly devastating for kids and teens.

They’ve said all of the laws about books help protect parental rights. Hmmm. Seems like a lot of parents’ rights being stepped on here as they limit access for ALL kids. Ready for an advanced astronomy book? Too bad. Want to read the Odyssey? Nope. This is awful.

I loved CBS Saturday and Sunday. It was hard to give them up. The longer form reporting was wonderful. I won’t go back.

This has been going on for FIVE years and has escalated to this and Arkansas being able to arrest librarians. When will people see this as the encroachment on their rights that it is?!

A moderate WY Republican is still pretty conservative. They believe in traditional Republican values like small government and local control. The FC pushed culture war issues and frequently flouted local control. Traditional WY Republicans have a bit of a Libertarian streak. Live and let live.

This was a sea change built on hard work by individuals and groups over the last 2 years. It helps that the FC overplayed their hand last session and ticked a lot of people off all across the state. 🦬

No one is giving up on democracy. They can vote absentee.
000
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
In this town, they would become 50% of the voting block. They can vote absentee, just like those living abroad do. Overseas voters vote where they have residency and so should students. Students don’t usually update licenses or car registration, etc. They aren’t residents of their college town.
200
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
They vote for governor. Our governor appoints the college’s trustees. They vote for state reps who determine our state grant funding.
100
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
They have student government which impacts campus decisions. Townspeople don’t get to be part of that.
100
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Students are both part time and temporary residents. Jewish people wouldn’t be part time and temporary🤷‍♀️ They would also be involved in the community. Students can vote absentee and get involved in student government to impact campus decisions.
200
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
I would welcome both🤷‍♀️
000
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
So you would want 18-22 year olds whose lives revolve around campus to make decisions about the public library, senior center, infrastructure off campus, etc.? They leave after 4 years. They can join student govt and impact campus life. No townspeople are part of student govt.
100
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Or they can vote in the county where that matches the address on their license and vote absentee in Nov. The majority are here for 4 yrs and don’t engage with town services. That’s not criticism, it’s reality. They can join student govt. to impact campus decisions.
101
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
They have a voice in student government which impacts how campus is run. No townspeople get to be part of that.
100
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
They are not disenfranchised. They can vote absentee. They can also participate in student government to influence campus decisions.
110
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
They can vote absentee. If they move here and become a resident here, they can vote here. Most don’t. Their cars are still registered in their home counties, and they don’t live here year round.
020
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Let’s make policy using the exception? In my town’s case they would make up 50% of the voting population if they voted here. That skews things for permanent residents. They can vote absentee and can join student government which can impact university decisions.

Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Where they go on breaks. I’m going to stop responding now. I urge you to watch Breaking Away to better understand the relationship between college town permanent residents and students. Would you want part time, temporary dwellers to make long-term decisions about your town and its amenities?
110
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
They can vote at home and vote absentee in November.
100
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
I didn’t say they never wander into town. I said they are part time, temporary residents and they would be 50% of voters if they could vote here. They don’t share the needs of permanent residents. They can be involved in student government and they can vote absentee.
110
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Um. I spend plenty of time with students. If they could vote in my rural town, they would be about 50% of voters. They are part time, temporary residents who don’t understand the needs of permanent residents here. 🤷‍♀️
100
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
They can be involved in student government. That does impact campus decisions. It’s not fair to permanent residents to have, in my town’s case, about 50% of voters being 18-22 who will only be here 4ish years.
020
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
And students can vote absentee. No one is being disenfranchised. If you have left home and live in your college town year round, you are a resident of the town.
120
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
They are both part time and short term residents here. They don’t get engaged with the local community and don’t know permanent residents needs because they don’t share them.
000
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
That would make the biggest voting block in this town 18-22 year-olds. Would they vote to support the public library (they have a world class one on campus), the senior center, the rec center families use (they have a top notch gym on campus already), improve roads and infrastructure?
100
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
They are not disenfranchised. They can vote absentee. They can also be involved in student government. Student government makes decisions that affect campus.
230
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Would they support a senior center? How about our rec center for families? They have a beautiful gym on campus. They don’t need the rec center. How about our public library? They don’t need it. They have a world class library. They are not permanent residents of the town.
120
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
I take huge offense at your “wrong side of the tracks” statement. They don’t live here full time. They don’t know the community beyond campus. They have a student government they can be involved in that affects campus. The biggest voting block would be 18-22 here if they could vote.
221
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Would they vote to support the senior center, the rec center families use (they have a top notch gym on campus already), improve roads and infrastructure that don’t go through campus, etc.?
130
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
They should vote in their hometowns. They are not residents here🤷‍♀️ They can be involved in student government on campus. Would you want the biggest block of voters in your town to be 18-22 who don’t live there full time and whose lives revolve around campus, not the community at large?
14110
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
It still doesn’t mean that they engage with the community. They use university facilities, not community ones. Their lives revolve around university events. Again, they are both part and short timers here.
230
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Hardly any. We’re very rural. The next largest employers are the hospital network and local school district.
100
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
The vast majority in this town do. It’s a night and day difference. We lose 1/3 of the people in town over breaks. Completely different atmosphere.
100
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
It’s primary time. Signs are up EVERYWHERE. BTW…students won’t be back in time to vote because they’re still on break in their hometowns.
410
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
But they’re not residents. They both part and short timers here. Their needs are vastly different from those of permanent residents. They’re not invested because they’re not staying.
030
Jen @libroloverjen.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
They also pay taxes in their hometowns on breaks You pay taxes when you travel. It doesn’t entitle you to a vote. The needs of students and residents in the town are very different. Students are both part and short timers. They’re not invested in the local community. That’s not judgment, it’s fact.
