The Bluest Eye is the 6th most challenged book in 2023. Its author is Nobel prize-winning novelist Toni Morrison.

It's been challenged on the grounds that it is sexually explicit and includes EDI content. However, the novel has been used in AP English Lit classes for years and has received positive commentary.

So much misinformation has been spread about school librarians and school libraries. Here are some facts. #SchoolLibraryFacts #SchoolLibrariesRock #MediaSpecialists

School librarians are uniquely qualified to select books.

Certified librarians are certified teachers that have completed extra advanced coursework to have a school library media endorsement added to their teaching licenses. Many earn full Masters's Degrees in Library Science.

School librarians take graduate-level course in library collection development.

School librarians have also taken classes on child development, educational psychology, readers' advisory, and school library management. They are the best people in the school to select books for the library. They also recognize that not every book is for every child and will work with parents to help them make great choices for THEIR children.

ASL is not English. It’s a unique language with its own syntax/structure. Not all who use ASL can read English quickly. Plus, closed captioning of live events can be very error-filled. Never imagined we would see vital accommodations that have been in place for years attacked publicly like this./1
