That's a wrap on Bora Chung's MIDNIGHT TIMETABLE in our fifth book collaboration, this time for Algonquin in the US and Dialogue in the UK, on a novel narrated by a night shift worker at a research institute for haunted objects, coming in late 2025.

2 eps in and the leads have vvv great chemistry together, plus the buildup of their budding relationship feels so natural. the downside is their awkwardness & stretches of silence were so realistic i got secondhand embarrassment

finished this and the focus on the romance faded away in the second half + the ending wasn't that satisfactory but the first 16-20 eps? a definite must-watch.

with all the recent developments in Syria, I'm reminded again of this book I read earlier this year. it's a nonfic about a journalist who interviewed & befriended a band of rebels trapped in Daraya, a syrian town that was under siege. this book left an impression on me and I v much recommend it 💙📚

the stories offer vivid, if quite dry, glimpses of what life was like as a member of the Malayan Communist Party back in the days, where they did their best to survive in the wild forest while defending themselves from the Enemy.

Delicious Hunger [Hai Fan, Jeremy Tiang] ✯✯✯ thoughts & opinions: this short story collection is filled with wild beauties even amidst all the sufferings that I'm sure came directly from the author's own memories as an ex-communist guerrilla who spent ~10 years living in the rainforest.

Book cover for Delicious Hunger by Hai Fan (Jeremy Tiang)

A quote from the book, “For the literature of Singapore and Malaysia, this previously forbidden corner turned out to be rich with buried rations, but only the people who'd actually taken part in the burying, the 'people of yesterday', knew where to dig them up.”

I've heard of it so many times but I keep putting it off because i am not too fond of the male actor🥲 maybe someday.. BUT speaking of cozy dramas about books, have you seen When the Weather is Fine? it's set in winter and has a book club, a little melancholic & quiet but i truly enjoyed it❄️📚

historical romance will never escape the allegations of being one of if not THE most unhinged romance subgenre because tell me why this drama has the main couple biting & leaving bloody bitemarks on each other's arms, and intertwining their fingers afterwards?

I've heard of this one but I haven't watched it. from the little i saw online it looked right up my alley! its vibes remind me of One Day Off, which is also quite short (8 eps, less than 30mins each). have you watched it?
