Reading is reading. There is no such thing as a reluctant reader, we just need to find the right connection.

Stop minimizing manga and graphic novels as entry points to reading. This discounts the reader is cognitavely doing. AND a traditional print reader cannot automatically read manga and graphic novels. Vistual literacy is real. #TLSky #EduSky

The first two weeks of school have absolutely decimated my energy....but we switched to Mackinvision (@mackinlibrary.bsky.social) as our library system and I'm so excited about how simple and efficient the self checkout system is for students!

Upshot: Audio paired with read-along of plain text helps. Audio with multimedia (images, video, interactive text) often leads to overstimilation. So get those audio books to pair w/ popular print books & curricular titles! #TLSky #EduSky #SchoolLibrarians #TLSkyChat

A book cover for Augusta Pine Does Not Exist by Emily Lloyd-Jones, with a girl with pink hair and sunglasses reaching up through what looks like an elevator shaft.

Text review next to book cover says Thrilling Audiobook. I really enjoyed this YA spy thriller in a futuristic world. While I do think some of the flashbacks stalled the plot a little bit, I really enjoyed the main character and the ways the problems were creatively approached. I do think this will be a great recommend for those who loved Tess Sharpe's The Girls I've Been.

Definitely worth a listen--I especially appreciated the explanation of how the push for AI implementation in schools has differed from other technology adoptions have happened in the past!

A book cover for The Velvet Knife by Maureen Johnson, which features the title in bold white font over top a dark apartment building with pinkish windows showing inhabitants of the building.

Text review next to book cover says NetGalley ARC. I enjoyed this continuation of the Truly Devious series and Stevie’s ability to end up in close proximity to murder, even when she’s not trying. While the relationship angst was not my favorite, I liked the flashbacks to the cult storyline, and was really satisfied by the way the cold case mystery resolved in the end.

A book cover for Spy Grandma by Celina Frenn and illustrated by Lucas Elliott. The cover features a shadowed figure in mirrored sunglasses over half the cover, with two kids in the background running from a chaotic scene with an explosion and five people chasing them.

Text review next to book cover says NetGalley ARC. This middle grade adventure graphic novel gave me nostalgic vibes for one of my favorite movies--Hoodwinked. The grandma character definitely stole the show! The story is very plot and humor focused and will work well for graphic novel lovers of off the wall hijinks and the Spy School series.

A book cover for The Undead Fox of Deadwood Forest by Aubrey Hartman, showing a fox with a red cloak walking through a forest filled with mushrooms.

Text review next to book cover says Poignant and Character Driven. I wholly enjoyed this book--especially with the narration, which was absolutely fantastic. It is a slower paced book with a lot of introspection, and so I do think it will take a specific middle grade reader. I really was drawn into the characters--I loved Gingersnipes especially, but Clare was also a character that really grew on me.

A book cover for Yarn Is Everything, book three in the series Jasper Rabbit's Creepy Tales series by Aaron Reynolds and illustrated by Peter Brown. The cover shows a shrew with glowing teal eyes holding a crochet needle and yarn, with neon yarn lettering for the title.

Text review next to book cover says NetGalley ARC. I read the first 10 chapters of this book feeling a little disappointed because it didn't seem like this was going to satisfy those readers looking for a scary time, but the ending really delivered! I think this one will take an initial pitch to readers, but I think with just one passionate reader who makes it to the twist ending, the excitement for this one will spread.

Made it to the end of teaching Summer Program! Now to dredge up enough energy to assess final writings and write progress reports…a task that will wait until after the weekend!

A book cover for Absent by Rex Ogle, with a sketched empty school desk on a blue background.

Text review next to book cover says NetGalley ARC. This book uses multiple formats to tell the story, and each type (journal style prose, verse, and comics) fits with the characters and their voices well
While marketed as a middle grade book, I think this one should be read by adults and educators because it does such a good job of making often invisible stories visible.

A book cover for Nell O'Dell Hates Quests by Emily B. Martin, a girl in an apron with purple shimmery hair stands grumpily in front of a door, with various fantastical quest characters peeking around the door.

Text review next to book cover says 5 star read! I highly enjoyed this book from the first chapter! The characters were really fun--I loved Midge's exuberance and Nell's reluctance and journey of self reflection (definitely not a quest) and the way that the story played with fantasy tropes. Would recommend to any DND fans and middle grade fantasy lovers!

This would make a great structured academic controversy topic to introduce AI usage for students without resorting to a Do's/Dont's presentation...noting to expand on in the fall!

A book cover for Where Ella Went by Laurie Morrison, with two girls in purple soccer jerseys looking concerned toward a white silhouette of a girl with the title in green letters.

Text review next to book cover says 5 star read! A fantastic middle grade mystery with a soccer focus. The mystery pulled me in, the multimedia format read quickly, the characters were delightfully human, and I can't wait to recommend to students in the fall!
