Trans rights are not the rights of a tiny minority, trans rights are everyone’s rights to self-determination, control of our bodies, and a society where opportunity and aesthetics are not restricted by sex assigned at birth You should support and defend trans people because trans people are people

This overcast, gloomy 4th of July really suits my mood, given the sheer, hateful stupidity of the MAGA Trumpers. Sigh. I’m so tired of being angry and scared, for my family and all the people in the U.S. Sorry this doesn’t really add anything to the discourse… Just here, queer and venting.

I also live streamed it, cheering for the 1.5ish seconds they were on screen. (I also learned that their school mascot is the Tree Frogs, which I think is pretty adorable!) Hugs to you and Glenn! Big props to my eldest for their second degree!! 🎉🎉

And I may have to let go of the 2010 Mac Mini (running Linux) and the 2015 MacBook Air (running Win 10). It’s hard, cause they both work fine… but I don’t really need them at this point. And our place is too small for me to have a collection of old machines. 🤣

The box in the wagon is one I built with my own hands, for my son. He upgraded, and I had to adopt it. I’ll probably keep Windows 11 on it for games that really won’t run on Linux/proton, or Mac, and for playing multiplayer games w/ friends. It has a 2060, but I’ll likely upgrade to AMD eventually.

I was riding with a friend Saturday when I noticed a PC in her back seat. It was being retired due to being too old to run Windows 11. I couldn’t pass up a change to tinker, and now it’s my Linux Mint box, for gaming with Steam/proton, and maybe some emulation. #tinkering #amateurgeek

On my way home with a PC on the bus… cheaper than a Zip Car/taxi! This will bring the total number of working computers in our apartment to 5… 2 of which came home within 3 days of each other. 🤓

Oh, for sure!! I have zero interest in Windows 11 on any of my machines ever. I’m thinking between Mac, Crossover, Proton and the Xbox, I should be able to avoid it - I’m certainly not lacking in games to play. I would like to build a new Linux gaming rig, but it’s not urgent, I tell myself. 😅

I got into console gaming in the days of my 12” PowerBook, and mostly found myself playing in the Xbox ecosystem, which does make me laugh at myself, since Windows is my least favorite OS (but it is what we use at work, so I can’t abandon it entirely.)

I’ve tried virtual machines a few times, but the constraints of shared RAM, etc, were not quite sufficient, so I moved to dual booting and/or separate machines. 😅

librarygrrl /pikageek/ Shandra @librarygrrl.bsky.social · 01/05/2025

I periodically get the itch to build a PC or at least tinker, so I did install a new drive in the old Mini. My pandemic build of a low end Linux gaming PC was turned into a midrange gaming PC for my son. Maybe I should’ve gone into IT, but then I probably wouldn’t enjoy it as a hobby anymore?

I had Steam Deck and loved it, but then I hardly ever used it not plugged in to a monitor, which seemed a bit silly. I have arthritis in my left thumb, and not great vision, so playing handheld wasn’t a great fit for me. It did get me back into PC gaming, though!

I’ve dabbled a lot over the years, and enjoy building my own PCs. Currently, I have an M4 Mac Mini with Mac OS Sequoia, a 2010 Mac Mini running Linux Mint, and a 2015 MacBook Air running windows 10.

🤷 Motley seems a good descriptor to me. I’ve also thought of it as “broken tabby” but I don’t know where my brain picked up that phrase. A quick search tells me he’s also “bicolor” or “white and…”. Mostly, he’s just our handsome man. ☺️

Say it after me: Chat GPT is not a search engine. It does not scan the web for information, it just generates statistically likely sentences. You cannot use it a search engine, or as a substitute for searching. Now. Please never use an LLM for information searches ever again.

Boo used to be able to curl up in the fruit bowl, now he barely fits standing up. Silly boy! (We had to stop keeping fruit in it, of course!)

Sorry to leave my few BlueSky peeps hanging - my shoulder is doing much better, and I only need PT. Phew! Thankful for no need for surgery. My teeth are also doing better - the splint is off, and now we wait to see how they do. Trauma in teeth can take awhile to show up… eep.

Good morning, BlueSky! It’s my birthday today. My wife is taking me to my favorite nursery and art store, so I likely won’t be on much until tomorrow. I love our community here, thank you for giving me a loving and supportive place to share my art. You’re the best 💛

My favorite type of banana bread uses sour cream (or Greek yogurt) for extra depth. I also put in at least 3, usually 4 bananas, and use brown sugar instead of white sugar. reluctantentertainer.com/sour-cream-b...

It’s very nice to be reunited with some old friends, and it’s also much more peaceful than my last branch. (No shade - it’s just been crazy busy covering for closed branches the last 3 years!)

Starting my first full week at my new/old branch, and I’m loving it. My commute was 11 minutes on my electric bike under full cruise power (tested for science!) The building is all new and fancy, which is a little odd after so many years at the old building, but I can’t complain about the amenities!
