I would like to suggest that seeking election or appointment to your library board is a very good way to address book bans. Applications for our 2027 cohort are now open for those interested: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... - we need leftists to engage in governance.

The fear of being left out of what everybody else is doing and the fear of doing what everybody else is doing are both levers that clever advertisers can pull at the same time if they want. — @bdmcclay.bsky.social, on envy

He has plans to hang out at the mall with his friends if no school, so win-win, I guess?

So there's going to be a strike tomorrow, and probably no school, but for some reason they can't definitively say that there will be no school, so one of the kids will bike up to the school to check tomorrow.

Our neighborhood functions as an entry point into the housing market, so typically houses don't sit for long.

DUSK IN WINTER

The sun sets in the cold without friends
Without reproaches after all it has done for us
goes down believing in nothing
When it has gone I hear the stream running after it
It has brought its flute it is a long way

If everything is so optimized there's no room for give or take and things fall apart, you're still stuck with your body and your relationships and your finances. If you leave a little room for rest and not checking off every item on your list, you at least have adjustment room if things change.

The library system I worked for did not participate in it for years, and finally we did allocate funding for it a few years ago.

This is one of those programs that is run by an outside non-profit that provides the idea and promotion, but no actual funding. The libraries need to fund any rewards program themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if your library either never participated in it, or did at one point and lost funding.

I also kind of miss libraries that had listening stations. I get that it's mostly impossible now because staff have been cut to the bone, collection budgets have been cut to the bone, but...people would come in, trade their library card (or ID, or car keys...or whatever) to "check out" headphones.
