The updated tag is confusing. It seems to be the date the data was ingested into the National Data Library. So library listings from 2018 say they were updated in 2026

The whole basis of this 'coursework is impossible now' is nonsense and seems to be trying to be cleverer than other people, while knowing very little. Even without controlled conditions there are plenty of subjects where AI makes little difference.

Yes, only know Gloucestershire as another example but I think similar exemptions apply.

Indeed, in fact in a rural area with a poor bus service it will likely be more essential than ever to remove restrictions on travel.

Yes. Does this not already happen with government regulation? Do English regions need to follow public sector accessibility legislation? Where's this idea come from that devolving certain powers and decision making excludes any central decision making?

Libraries Hacked @librarieshacked.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
Of course you can. It's perfectly possible to support meaningful local decision making while also trying to remove unfair differences in access to certain public services. It's not even a productive hot take.

Perfectly good reasons to ban them. Though all the "about time, they're terrible anyway and don't cook food very well, you need a proper one" do seem pretty snobby. They cook food outside and people enjoy them.

Have libraries changed again? They're supposed to be getting a new strategy out

My parents did this in the 90s when they finally agreed to take me to McDonald's for my birthday.

A really crooked modern day usage of the word fairness.

"Any proposed solution must firstly be fair to those who have "made provisions and saved up over the course of their lives", Badenoch said." In other words, don't you dare go and give money or care to the poor who haven't saved for it.

150,000 marched yesterday in London for trans rights. Opened the Sky News app. Scrolled and scrolled. Nothing. BBC News app. Nothing. Guardian app. Nothing. This is what actual silencing looks like.

Simply making parental leave an individual entitlement would be transformative but so many people have been "ah, but men didn't take their partners leave, therefore they don't want it, never mind"

The University of Warwick needs an experienced and motivated Open Research Manager to lead the development and delivery of their open research strategy - great opportunity. #Libraries #LISJobs #Research informationprofessionaljobs.com/job…

In 2026, the year of reading, we are going to adopt an open by default policy, encouraging all member services to widely publish data on catalogues, loans and membership - to enable unprecedented public insight into reading through local libraries. Is what I'm imagining is being said.

data.gov.uk with librarians (no guarantee of actual employment of librarians)
Our current focus is on setting up the National Data Library foundations on data.gov.uk by:

making it easier to identify and use trusted, useful data across national themes (new data collections pages)
creating a data manual - a single space to find clear guidance and best practices on how to use and manage public data
fixing significant issues with the original directory
setting up channels for feedback and working in the open through this roadmap and user feedback forms

A very happy 80th birthday to the incredible Michael Rosen! 🥳 Thank you for everything you've done over the years to champion the joy of reading. We're celebrating with this wonderful clip from our wellbeing assembly for students that sums up just so perfectly the power of stories.

Not really. Across the vast amount of national statistics they handle many of them are 'crude', though even then still complex to maintain and requiring plenty of expertise. If the methodology was not all clearly published there could be an argument, but it is not presented misleadingly.

If the being wrong was purely for enjoyment, not sure it could be so easily argued to be wrong as such anyway. That would be more like playing at devil's advocate.

Libraries Hacked @librarieshacked.bsky.social · 25/04/2026
Bit circular cos you could argue that the original poster simply implying he hadn't gone far enough is therefore also less honest communication. But ultimately in both cases it seems reasonable to imply those things.

Fair enough. Although there is enough implied in his statement, certainly that anyone educated could deduce, that any significant inequality isn't just going to have just happened by chance. He's just framing it in the responsibility to help now rather than historic blame.

Libraries Hacked @librarieshacked.bsky.social · 25/04/2026
Doubt it. Perhaps to those already agreeing. But not sure it would do anything other than make others defensive and certainly not increase any positive action.
