Reminds me of the interactive soap operas in Fahrenheit 451. Though expecting friends to play online when they presumably have their own perfectly tailored environments does seem like he hasn't thought it through.

The Greens went from 4,030 votes to 8,928, a rise of 122%. Reasons and strategies can be debated, but these are the numbers... It is a tough ask to follow the leader of the majority party (so well done, Sagal Abdi-Wali) but the (BBC) reporting is all over the place - as often does happen.

AI hallucination of Chinese nuclear components almost led to US military attack
But the military's overall use of AI seems to be accelerating.

"a chatbot used by US intelligence invented information about a Chinese vessel carrying nuclear material, reportedly leading the US to prepare a military response." "Intelligence" used very loosely there. But hey, they're just the guys with their fingers on the nukes, NOTHING to worry about.

Greens more than double their votes (against falling turnout) and the "Can Polanski survive?" debate is in full flow. British Media is about as blatantly biased as it can get . No one is ripping into busted-flush, dismal fourth place Reform for THEIR failure to make any ground at all... why is that?

A turnout of 38.76% it pretty dire, isn't it? Whoever wins a seat by that sort of contest should make it one of their primary goals to boost voting numbers. (Maybe by being decent and honest and attending both local MP surgeries and parliament for all the votes, but also local engagement...)

Glaring typo "regareded" in the BBC news article detailing Anne Carson's Nobel Prize for Literature seems oddly par for the course. Now fixed, so it appears proof reading is done by readers. Ho hum. Can't even blame AI for that one... www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

This is fascinating, in part because of how much you know about each piece (even if the original spark is forgotten). It might be a scaling thing - I have stupid number of stories in "working" as well as trunk. But still, the journal sounds like something I should probably adopt!

Certainly nothing to be ashamed off. For most, it's a relief simply to be able to put a label on things. It hooks them into a support network that maybe wasn't there before. (Not, probably, the best resourced/distributed of networks, but hopefully better than nothing) www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Actor Simon Pegg reveals ADHD diagnosis: 'It's just who I am'
The Shaun of the Dead and Mission: Impossible films star had previously put symptoms down to "character fault".

Liam Hogan @liamjhogan.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
Successful people also have ADHD. (Simon Pegg, the latest celeb late-life diagnosed). A diagnosis puts a label on things that "negatively affect on a daily basis". Doesn't mean that person is "ill" or lesser, but it might help them - and those around them - adjust things to cope better.
100
Liam Hogan @liamjhogan.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
Suspicious of rising ADHD diagnosis rates? They're all snowflakes, aren't they? Well: "1.2% of adults in England had an ADHD diagnosis, international prevalence data estimates it affects 3-5% of people." So we have been traditionally under-diagnosed, and we are STILL under-diagnosed.

Liam Hogan @liamjhogan.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
Make art. Bad art, good art - that doesn't matter. But make it your own, and make it yourself. The point is the creation. The point is no-one else could make this glorious mess you have made. Certainly not AI, and even if it did, what would that be worth?

Also reported. Lets see what Amazon does. This as much as anything is the problem with AI - it's all theft, some of it much more blatant than others. Telling the degree comes down (alas) to the much put upon author needing to protect their work - time & effort wasted. :(

We seem to be seeing this round the world. Police forces are not getting any better at handling civil unrest. They DO have more weapons in their arsenal. There's also a minority of police themselves who always seem eager to throw a match into the powder keg.

Liam Hogan @liamjhogan.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
One does wonder how a protest against ageing school buildings, lack of teachers and overcrowded classrooms has got so violent, but it almost certainly is NOT the majority of the young protestors. A minority, perhaps, reacted against disproportionately by a thuggish police force.

Liam Hogan @liamjhogan.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
The BBC asks "Why has France suspended the use of stun grenades on protesters?" The answer is because they blow limbs off. Because "Non-lethal" is not the same as "peace keeping". Because using explosives, tear gas, or bullets, plastic or otherwise on protestors is "are we the bad guys?" territory.

This is a good illustration of how so much of AI theft isn't indirect (ie, data sucked into a model to train the chatbot) - it's actually **direct** copying, but *enabled* by GenAI. Of course it is: chatbots absolutely suck at creating good, new stuff.

Being cruel isn't strength. We know cruel policies when we see them. We know the sort of politician who employs them. We know they solve nothing in the long run, and don't help opinions in the short from anyone who wasn't already rabidly in your court. Politicians need to do better. Be stronger.

The UN should issue a warrant for Hegseth and Trump's arrest, as they have for Netanyahu. They should face trial with their own vainglorious posts on X as the primary evidence against them. The military responsible should be demoted- following clearly illegal orders does not justify compliance.

It's murder, whether or not there was evidence, whether or not they are drug smugglers or just suspected drug smugglers. It's murder designed to leave NO evidence. It's state sanctioned murder in international waters. It's an atrocity, it's a crime against humanity. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Cynical, but alas... When your power and position comes from aggression and fascism, actual, concrete peace talks are to be avoided. Everything is an excuse. And the effects of the propaganda and false messaging (both ways) will last a generation, if not longer. Discontent simmers.

I've always been careful to criticise the IDF and Netanyahu and the hard right. And sure sure sure, Hamas actions have led to the same thing, conflating a radical set of views with a whole population (which the IDF has weaponised). Undoubtedly, there's something rotten in the state of Israel.

Liam Hogan @liamjhogan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Instead, some strong voices have swayed policy (against Polanski's amendments and comments) leading to a very divisive news story, that will, you would think, lose them both members and supporters. It might open up debate - but I doubt it will. It's a toxic subject in general, because, nuance.

Liam Hogan @liamjhogan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I can see where it comes from, and I have some sympathy (anyone looking at the before and after satellite pictures of Palestine HAS to have sympathy). But it would have been better, I think, if the Greens had backed the UN's statements on atrocity and genocide, the warrant for Netanyahu's arrest.
100
Liam Hogan @liamjhogan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
But they're not universal. So Israel is racist is inaccurate, zionists shouldn't defend Israel's actions simply because they are "zionist", and the backlash against the Green Party's statement is inevitable but that's because it lacks any proportionality, any nuance.
100
Liam Hogan @liamjhogan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
It IS true that genocides are by definition racist, and only Israel and some highly suspect supporters stand against the UN's statement that what is happening (still) in Gaza is genocide. So by all means - the IDF and Israel government is racist, and those views are widely held in Israel.
100
Liam Hogan @liamjhogan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
They do bleed into each other, inevitably. It is not antisemitic to accuse Israel of genocide. But the actions of Israel DO lead to antisemitism far beyond its borders, even if they shouldn't. Saying Zionism is Racism- well, it kind of depends on how Zionism is achieved/defended. It's not axiomatic.
100
Liam Hogan @liamjhogan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Simplistically, there are three axes: semitism, zionism, and the current genocidal actions, racist policies, and hateful beliefs of the IDF and the Israel government. Conflating any one of these with any other leads to slogans, outrage, a mandate for idiots to do violence.
