Anyway, I guess as far as I can see this post became far more about your own history and issues with Bsky. Than the original issue I had with your dismissive understanding. I don’t think that’s healthy or cool in anyway, so I do apologize it descended into that.

This isn’t about “woe is me” game developers - but it does also seem to be one of the only industries where so many online commenters seem to think they’ve got the same or “better” understanding of its inner workings than the actual people who work in it.

As I’ve seen in other comments you posted. You’re passing it off as “sarcasm”, but comments such as it continues to do real damage to helping anyone understand the realities of game dev in this period of time.

Apologies on the “let go”, I had that wrong. Regarding your point, exactly! Which is why I’m so baffled by your post in the first place. It’s not as simple as “sell X, afford Y”. There’s a myriad of factors & it’s one of the only industries where P/L forecasting is next to impossible.

You don’t know what their continue royalty split is, or what the deal is to be independent. You‘re smart enough to know that nothing is black & white. They’re going from a specific allocated budget overhead per month to basically “what do we make royalties on”. I’m sure you know that to an extent?

We both know the answer. They were owned by Xbox & were cut loose to be an independent studio. No different to you being let go from IGN (a stable salary) to then fighting for yourself and learning to adjust, no?

Do you know the budget for Kiln? Do you know the budget for Keeper? What’s the numbers you know here? I wonder here in 2026 where games like Onimusha & Persona 4 are seen as AAA titles. What a Brutal Legend 2 or a Psy3 would cost? Because it’s almost easy to do that math, no?

What’s your point by asking this question? That Tim is a failure, that you know better than? The reality of those people being let go, is because of the reality of how much it costs to run a studio in 2026. Something that is simple and you seem to be an expert on.

After 11 years in Japan, I’m finally seeing one of my last white whales! Abingdon Boys School, TM Revolution’s rock band he made in the 00’s. I didn’t even know they toured these days. But, once in a while they do INAZUMA FEST in Shiga. Can’t believe there’s even goods!

Couldn’t resist… usually don’t get to play stuff at shows. But, had to check out the GOAT Golf game on the new NEO-GEO. Sticks feeling great and the cartridge emulation seemed super solid 👍
