In a radical move, I suggest instead that people buy my books, then I can buy myself cake. Weird, I know.

Sure, let me know your address and I'll send you a cake. It might even be NOT a urinal cake.

Obviously I feel obliged to mention that people should be reading my own collection 'Tales from the World's End', if for no other reason than they are marginally less likely to happen than anything that is already happening to so many people.

This is the only time in my life that I've paused a podcast to listen to an opera.

It's funny because I changed the location of Hunger Stone from Las Vegas to New York after the feds found bodies uncovered by droughts in Nevada...

Imagine already having written a short story called Island of Strangers and then waking up to this garbage.

In the news: In which we learn that our leaders find it easier to believe "AI is the future" than to believe that actual, living human beings who make art for a living have rights and deserve respect. Our consent doesn't matter to them. Only appeasing the tech bros matters.

Nah, I think it's a story about a crime writer who gets his classes cancelled because they're using the AI of a dead crime writer instead. So he vows to get revenge on them, but to do that it turns out he needs a little help...

Like, I'm reasonably sure there's a Black Mirror episode right there.

It's twice as long as my last anthology and I'm not apologising.

Is there some sort of new Godwin's Law for where this thread ended up?

I'm dreaming of a mythology where there's been an epic cosmic battle between the god of sandboxes and the goddess of railroads, and humanity is living in the aftermath. Am I on the right track ? (Ha! Track! Railroad!)

I want my players to show up for the game and not be dicks. Is there a god for that? Is it Thor? It's usually Thor, right?

Or rework the Battle of Culloden with Melniboné Prince Charlie.

As an indie writer, I have to pop in a thank you here for talking about Substack.

I'll have to try something like this myself one day, it's not as if I'd be short on people to ask for clues!

On a superficial reading, I quite liked Rawls, but I never read it in depth. I strongly suspect it's an interesting though experiment and nothing more.

Y'know, I've read enough papal history to know basing an AI pope on previous papal behaviour is a disaster in itself.
