A hundred years ago, the Seine was declared too polluted to swim in. Today, it’s open again. A reminder that with investment and political will, rivers can be brought back to life. In the end, it’s a choice. www.bbc.com/news/article...

As apex predators, they keep the ocean in balance. Take them out, and the entire ecosystem starts to collapse. Right now, sharks need us. An estimated 274,000 sharks are killed every single day. It’s an ecocide taking place right now, and we must stop it. lewispughfoundation.org/campaign/sha...

Jaws has shaped our perception of sharks as vindictive killers. That fear spread across the globe and lasted for half a century. Now it’s time to change the narrative for a new generation. Sharks are not monsters. They’re magnificent. They’re essential. And they’re seriously endangered.

I’ve just completed #TheSharkSwim 🏊‍♂️🦈📣 12 days & 59 miles around Martha’s Vineyard, where Jaws was filmed 50 years ago. It's been one of the toughest swims of my life. Cold water, relentless wind, big waves and the constant thought of what might be beneath me. But I swam here for a reason 👇

Today I reached the Jaws Bridge — probably the most iconic landmark from the film 🦈🌉 50 years on, it’s striking how much has changed, how little has, and how much still needs to. 53 miles in the bag. 5 to go. #TheSharkSwim

How do you make up for lost days in bad weather? You swim at nautical twilight. The sea is pitch black. No horizon. No reference points. It’s deeply unsettling in these waters - but the distance has to be covered 🏊‍♂️🌌 #TheSharkSwim

Day 4 of #TheSharkSwim was a tough one. From the first stroke, I was swimming straight into a strong headwind. In 2 hours, I barely covered 5 km. Didn’t help that below me, it was hard to tell what was a rock, what was a shadow, and what might have been something else 🌊🏊‍♂️

4. Insulation: More body fat helps retain warmth, though too much can reduce swimming efficiency. 5. Mental resilience: The ability to stay calm and push through discomfort is key. 6. Judgement: Knowing your limits is essential. Pushing through isn’t always brave – sometimes it’s foolish.

There are 6 key things I focus on: 1. Acclimatisation: Building tolerance through repeated cold exposure. 2. Strength: Stronger muscles improve performance and help generate internal heat. 3. Speed: Swimming faster also generates more internal heat.
