I thought to myself, "that doesn't sound like one of the regular helicopters," and I guess that's LeBron James flying past my house.

Our internet was out for longer than made sense, so I went to reset the router. First, I unplugged the modem, but when I went to unplug the router, the power supply was laying on the floor. The cameras out front didn't catch anyone going in, but I noticed something on the interior camera.

Because it's important to keep up with different perspectives, I visit the Drudge Report. Ignoring any Overton Window discussions for the moment, I have to call out the unmistakable influence of @rob-sheridan.com and his visual concepts of corruption and discomfort, all over the site at this moment.

This morning, I spotted a Cybertaxi while talking to our builders. I've been seeing Waymo cars around for the better part of a year, but I didn't realize Tesla was testing Philadelphia too. Ugh.

I have so little patience for trolls anymore. My social media routine now involves blocking people who say dumb shit mid-thread. I suppose I should create a public block list and just start adding to that.

Whatever gender stereotypes there are about cat ownership, it's definitely kept exactly the right people out of my life, apparently.

Philadelphia sure does love fireworks. I was hanging outside on Friday when the tell-tale booms echoed across the sky. It really is amazing what kind of pictures you can take from a modern mobile phone.

Kinda thought this was a Wawa ad at first, so I felt the need to scroll through your media tab.

It looks more dynamic from a visual analysis POV, but music that was a warm hug in a smokey room now has a shrill, icy feel to it. Maybe it'll sound different on vinyl (an option not previously available) but even if not... that's ok. I have the CD, and I was glad to buy the album directly again.

TFW you find out General Mifflin's headquarters is now an adult education center in Harvard Square and you can just walk right in. One day my real career will end, and with any luck, I can go full-time history nerd.

As for making the existing lamps completely fail, they seem like a tough nut to crack - they're original to the 1970s infrastructure. The city replaced all the lighting around us in 2021. I'd even take two of the scrapped heads over what we have now!

My last reply to PennDOT included a before/after of old/new lighting mentioned how the broken lights made it difficult to identify a pair of child abductors back in February. Haven't gotten a reply to that one yet!

Good news/bad news - the good news is, you can't even tell the guy threw something at the window of the second car. I think I ultimately made the right choice. The bad news is he sure made a mess out of the first car. PennDOT recently told me they won't fix the lighting here until about 2033.

Ages ago, Levi's had this black tweed jacket with red trim (which was more appealing to me before things got so Nazi here) - the catch? It was a 49ers Jacket. Eventually they blew it out at $35. I threadpicked the logos; they slashed the fabric underneath! Fixed it with a patch of Lars Ulrich's dad.

I just got an ad for a $275 "DIY" Dead Kennedys trucker jacket, and I hope a wormhole opens up in the warehouse and sucks all of this garbage into outer space

From the moment the Department of Homeland Security was given its name, people were calling out the authoritarian undertones that it gave off.| Anyway, here we are, a quarter century later, and it's as bad as we all said it would be, and it's going to get worse, like we've been saying.

Maybe try not being shitbirds - that might prove influential "...for the second survey in a row just 33% of respondents ‌said they approved of the Republican's performance in the White House, the lowest level in Reuters/Ipsos polls in Trump's first or second term" Sucks to suck, get off my screen!

There is no reason any of this should be in my Facebook feed. I've been on that platform for nearly two decades. It's deliberate, and if it's happening to me, I don't see why it's not happening to everyone. More than ever, I'm convinced we are firmly on the path to a North Korea style government.

I've been an avid Pixel Pro user for years. Most of the updates they've released in "Pixel drops" were just useless, but these two will very specifically make the internet a worse place.

I've been building out a patch editor and sound/beat/project librarian for my favorite drum machine, and it's been so satisfying. There was a lot of boring manual data-capture work up front, but turning that into a usable interface has been the most fun I've had doing web nerd stuff in a long time.

Coming home from a road trip, we stopped in a Wendy's drive through. I ordered a cheeseburger deluxe, "hold the onions" As we drove off, I opened the box to find the bun had a patty and onions, that's it. Guess they heard "only onions!" but I wanted to get home more than I wanted to return my food.

Adventures in midwestern public transportation. One dollar to get to downtown Peoria from the airport, because none of the two Lyft drivers want to come out here I guess, and I'm not calling the local taxi.

We put our couch on the curb this morning, "Free Sofa!". An Amazon delivery guy saw it while dropping off Melissa's order, sized it up, and came back later with his wife and an SUV. There's no such thing as "bulk trash day" in the city and I love that.

For just a moment, the clouds opened up after the storm, and the vibrant blue sky gave light to the reflection in the stormwater basin. Just as I took this picture, clouds cast themselves over the sun, and the colors all went gray again

But my best options have been "Play coop video games during office hours" or "At-home cocktail mixing kit, after hours" and I just can't. Photo contests get some traction, but no one wants Snappy dropship trash. Oh boy, headphones by a dead camera company! A cutting board! A shitty speaker!

A colleague asked me to be a "Chief Excitement Officer" for the 'remote' contingent, and friends, it's not easy. We can't send gift cards to people, we have to use "Snappy" - did you win the green week contest? Let's send you landfill! Would you like Allen keys or a Mario Lopez toothbrush?

A century ago today, the Delaware River Bridge opened to the public. When the bridge was dedicated on July 5, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. Since renamed The Benjamin Franklin Bridge, I've had the good fortune to look out upon that same bridge every morning for nearly a decade.

Somewhere near you, several times a month, a group of 20/30 somethings are singing challenging, beautiful music about pain, love, politics, and the cosmos, to two dozen people with an average age of "retired". Sounds swirling about in a beautiful room, with no amplification. You should go more often

I have the day off because we're going to Colonial Williamsburg to give a presentation this week. I turned off my alarm and was hoping to sleep in, but woke up to a cop ringing my doorbell camera, asking if I had footage of, well, this:

A sweaty evening of intermittent train travel comes to a close in a tiny room on the ground floor of a Chinatown hotel, and though it may take me an hour to dry off after that journey, there's a cart selling meat on a stick just a block away, and it hits just right.

Happy Random Fireworks Day! Philadelphia fucking loves fireworks.
A burst of colorful fireworks explodes in the background of a river scene featuring old piers and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, lit up green tonight in celebration of unfettered greed.
