Reposted by picatsoDr Thomas Clements @taphonomist.bsky.social · 27/03/2026The beautiful preservstion of trilobite compound eyes will never cease to amaze me. On this little 400ish million year old Phacops you can see all the little lenses - each one a rigid calcite mineral crystal! Together they had excellent 360° vision, perfect for finding lunch on the seafloor. 361789352
picatso @lesserdreams.bsky.social · 20/03/2026Drew some weird fish last month. Did you know that horseshoe crabs swim on their backs? #fish #art #sketchbook #crabs 060
picatso @lesserdreams.bsky.social · 22/02/2026Anyways. Here's the sourdough I made today. Also five years behind the trend but it still tastes great 010
picatso @lesserdreams.bsky.social · 22/02/2026It's very weird trying to be more online when everyone I know is cutting back on social media. I finally have things I want to share! 100
picatso @lesserdreams.bsky.social · 19/02/2026Just finished a commission for a local craft bar! Get these (and other art!) at www.thecraftbar.shop 020
picatso @lesserdreams.bsky.social · 02/10/2025Thanks for reading! I'll hopefully be remembering to post the rest of the #extinctbirds2025 challenge as I make them this month. 000
picatso @lesserdreams.bsky.social · 02/10/2025To me, it echoes the story of the Kirtland’s Warbler and the Jack Pine stands of the northeastern woodlands, though that bird is responding very well to conservation efforts. 100
picatso @lesserdreams.bsky.social · 02/10/2025Pictured here with Giant Cane, a species of North American bamboo that used to compose enormous canebreak ecosystems in the southeast. Sadly, with the mass destruction of this ecosystem, we also lost the hyperspecialized home of these warblers too. 100
picatso @lesserdreams.bsky.social · 29/09/2025Here's what I'm doing for #drawtober! Gotta get some #birds up in here. Tag is #extinctbirds2025 080
picatso @lesserdreams.bsky.social · 12/06/2025Anyways, came here to post the first oriole at my feeder! I always love seeing new #birds in my yard! 020
picatso @lesserdreams.bsky.social · 12/06/2025This #iNaturalist GenAI addition is so dissapointing. The team wants to "pilot" if they can replace decades of ecological expertise with generated reponses? Cool. If this is implemented, guess which experts will no longer train this dumb thing? Such shortsightedness, all for a Google grant. 000
picatso @lesserdreams.bsky.social · 12/06/2025Even with this update, it is clear the team has ignored users and plans to continue this grant anyways. iNaturalist's community has always provided these explanations for free, and now that exerience will be replaced w/ GenAI slop in whatever trial they pilot and force upon us later. Great. 0110
Reposted by picatsoYell In a War @jelenawoehr.bsky.social · 12/06/2025the entire reason I use iNaturalist is that it’s really fun when scientists and other wildlife observers find my photos and confirm the ID using their human expertise and I get to feel like I helped a person with their research you are taking away what’s special about the app if AI does that 0673
picatso @lesserdreams.bsky.social · 02/06/2025I think I'm finally getting good at this #breadmaking thing! 000
