My licence would certainly be fucked if I owned one.

The new Jag is right on the zeitgeist. It will sell out in the markets it is aimed at - which is mainly young, rich and Chinese. What you or I think about it really doesn’t matter. Although I actually think it looks pretty rad.

It’ll be far safer than the old e-type in that respect. The front end is bristling with radars. It’s actually quite hard to drive a modern car like this into an obstacle.

You think that because you are not a young, rich, Chinese person. Jaguar known precisely where these cars will sell and who to, and they’ve designed a car for exactly that audience.

It’ll sell. 95% if the sales will go to China, which is exactly where this car is aimed at.

They could protect them really cheaply - by getting the fuck out of Ukraine.

Minton Tiles. We had them in our last house, also Victorian. And also covered with a carpet - and that was ripped up on the day we arrived.

My father had the Singer Gazelle variant of the Hunter. After years of riding around squashed into the back of a Mini with my two brothers, the Gazelle felt like a limo.

Branson and the Virgin brand has a lot to thank Mile Oldfield for. This album helped make Richard Branson’s Virgin. Without Tubular Bells Virgin records might have just been another failed and insignificant 1970s independent label.

I once rode at the head of the carnival procession in a moto-cade-of-honour with a motorcycle club based in Notting Hill. We then retired to their clubhouse and danced the night away. It’s actually the only time I’ve been to the carnival, but man it was a particularly memorable occasion.

I’ve ridden 1920s bikes, they are utterly charming to ride. But their lack of any significant braking ability make them very challenging to use in modern traffic. Classic bikes from the 50s and 60s are much better, and their braking has been further improved by modern brake linings.

There was one of these parked on the drive of a house on Hayling Island in the 1970s. We used to see it everyday on the way to and from school. But I never once saw it being driven.

When I was a despatch rider in the late 80s / early 90s, there was one that parked outside an office in Midhurst. Never got to ride one let alone own one. Nearest I got was very briefly owning an RC45.

‘Overloading the set with bangers’ - does not compute. Keep them going with banger after banger, just vary the pace and style - and they’ll keep dancing all night.

Poppin is one of the many Jamaican artists that hasn’t had nearly the recognition they deserve. I have three LPs by him, Pop Inn, Envious and More of Keith Poppin and they are all killa no filla. I have a bunch of his singles too, including this corker: youtu.be/5CMRAx1Mtto

Yes. The entrance was also basically an airlock. The entire room was a clean room. Mainly, I seem to recall, to protect the delicate heads in the big disc drives. Big physically, and yet laughingly small byte-wise by today’s standards. The OP’s image made me feel extremely nostalgic.

Indeed it does. I too worked in the mainframe room while at IBM. On night shifts we smoked reefers behind the banks of tape drives. The back wall was a huge extractor fan. The smoke would be sucked straight out of the room, so the shift leader was never aware of our nefarious nocturnal activities.

This is a classic album. And the cover art on the original gatefold sleeve is superb. The dub version is well worth seeking out too. The child depicted on the cover is Haile Selassie I, aka Ras Tafari Makonnen.

You’ve written 38 very similar replies to various posts in just one house - and that’s here on Bsky alone. You fund has so far raised almost €15000 in less than a month. That’s quite an achievement for someone in such dire circumstances.

When getting results from your work involves getting new laws voted through two sitting houses of Parliament, you get nothing of substance done while those houses aren’t sitting. We really don’t have any idea of what Burnham will achieve, or even can achieve, yet. So now is not the time to judge.

Are you aware that parliament has been in recess for the majority of his tenure as Prime Minister? How does one get anything ‘done’ at work when one’s workplace isn’t open? Even when parliament is sitting, things move at glacial pace through debates, committees and votes - and across two houses.

My parents were petrolheads. Our weekends were often spent watching Rally Cross or grasstrack at places like Lydden Hill, Brands Hatch or Thruxton. Once I got into motorcycles, I would go off with my biker mayes to watch two and three-wheeled grass track events. The sidecar boys were utter nutters.

I think in my mate’s A40’s case it was more a case of a bit of scaffold pipe welded to the manifold, or something similarly Heath Robinson.

I wondered for years why it was called Super Eight. And I’ve just realised that it’s probably because it is a collection of eight super tracks. 🤔

My JA pressing of this superb LP, known as Super Eight, came in this sleeve - which is the same sleeve as the brilliant JA 12inch cut of the title track came in. I adore this LP, his wonderful voice and Perry’s absolute genius combined to make one of the best reggae albums in my collection.
