That's fair. Although it also depends on whether your network provider doesn't suck. Otherwise, it needs to employ an active bridge between your device and your VPS 😵‍💫 (I hate CGNAT 😭)

I don't think that's possible with Tailscale, as (AFAIK) it doesn't let ports be exposed outside the local network it creates 😔 Also, I noticed something: With your setup, it's 4 or 5 hops, not 3: Your device → Tailscale → your VPS → Proton's Secure Core → Proton's destination → your destination 😅

I might try using an old laptop with Tailscale to expose it to the open web in the future, though — I just need to fix the laptop first, which will require a lot of energy that I'm currently lacking 🥲

Oh, that's fair enough. It's similar to my original setup, where I used to redirect all non-local traffic through a WireGuard VPN using simple iptables, not Tailscale. However, I had to abandon it because the VPSes I could afford were usually based in Europe, which resulted in high latency 🥲

No, that's actually a good question! When Google announced that they were switching Chrome OS over to an Android base, it was clear that Chrome OS Flex would die due to the garbage Android kernel. While Google claimed this is not their intention, they're not working towards not letting this happen 😐

Not exactly, it was a terrible idea due to manual interventions and the risk of partial updates 😅 However, even with such a massive level of recklessness, it just never broke while in my hands. It's way more solid than what people think. Meanwhile, I had a Debian install give up on me once 💀

I also wouldn't survive with an immutable distro. I can only handle NixOS because the system is essentially built by the user — and even then, it still sucks at times 😵‍💫 I tried CachyOS for a day, but the GTK4 updater having to call another GUI updater in a KDE system annoyed me enough to leave 💀

I once used CachyOS's ISO to install quasi-vanilla Arch but with their repositories and optimised packages, and it worked reasonably well. I wonder how hard it would be to do the same and then manually install the components that make it CachyOS 😵‍💫
