A bit of searching on CPDL and I came across a gorgeous setting of Crux Fidelis (in English) by @artsyhonker.bsky.social - thank you so much for putting it out there, I'm looking forward to introducing it to our choir!

Spent the morning looking for an anthem for our Holy Cross evensong in September - something pretty, liturgically appropriate, and accessible for my choir (most of whom do not read music) on very limited rehearsal time. Oh, and we have no budget!

Currently looking at the new liturgical resources for "Creation in Christ" For those of us who sing the gospel acclamation, HOW are we supposed to point this? "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things."

Weekend adventures: singing at Brecon Cathedral as half of a visiting "choir" with a friend. The Chaminade mass went down well and we have been invited back next year! Turns out "can the two of us come and be a visiting choir at your cathedral?" is a question worth asking... 😁 Now where next?

Supposedly everyone gets a free item at the start. My sister (who was assigned Portugal) got Portuguese custard tarts. For Scotland they decided on... ...ice lollies (None of the included varieties of which are stocked in my local store)

I honestly think banning MPs' second jobs is the single most powerful immediate thing the Govt could do to dent Reform support. It's the right thing to do. It would be a strong move (and message) in cleaning up politics. And it would shine a light on the person hit hardest: Nigel Farage.

A cartoon about different responses to voting:
‘I can’t be bothered to vote’
‘My vote won’t count in any case’
‘I don’t see the point in voting to be honest’
‘What difference would my vote make?’
‘My vote won’t change anything anyway’

(having said that, the percentages in the quiz result aren't probabilities anyway - if you're 50% German that's not the same as there being a 1 in 2 chance of you being German!)

Only if the events are independent - that is to say, that there is no connection between being a nun and being a tap dancer. But if tap-dancing were a requirement for taking religious vows, then your chances of being a tap-dancing nun would be 60% - and if you were already a tap-dancer, 80% (60/75)

All the things other people have said. And perhaps vocalzones before services. And ask a suitable choir member to sing the exultet if appropriate (they would likely be delighted!)

I am a mathematician, and there are no arithmetic issues (though there might be methodological ones)... This result just shows it is possible to be autistic and German at the same time!

I would love to know where the Archbishop is staying on her pilgrimage... having done most of the North Downs Way I still haven't made it to Canterbury due to a distinct lack of convenient campsites/hostels Then again there isn't space in her bag for a tent so that's probably not the plan!

Reform UK’s share of BBC and ITV coverage is ridiculous given their number of MPs & considering opposition parties that polled higher (such as Lib Dems) receive such poor coverage. www.enhancingimpartiality.com/blog/after-w...

I guess one of the things for me is how my perspective on the CofE has shifted since writing them. I wrote a Church that listened and was willing to change, that was wrapped in bureaucracy at times but ultimately cared about people and was willing to accept fault - and to forgive.

Thank you! I'll leave them up for a while longer. I love all those characters. I've written all kinds of scenes that aren't in the trilogy - Charley at 20, Mika in her teens, Ruth as a Westcott tutor who all the ordinands are terrified of, Ruth helping Tom through his early episcopal ministry, etc.

I don't know how to function in a world that is so continuously cruel. Where so many will celebrate this pointless, pointless harm. This will devastate a tiny minority. It will benefit no-one. So many across our country will comply with this violence. So many others will stand silent.

I am beyond angry at the way trans children are being systematically persecuted. The full power, violence and force of our state is smashing down onto them, making their life impossible.

I am one of the most published academics on the childhood social transition, with 5 peer reviewed articles that relate to the topic. There is so much evidence of benefit of social transition. There is no evidence of harm. Not one jot. This will literally kill trans kids. No exaggeration.

Hi! Yes I started taking them down because while I still enjoy the stories, I've gradually developed my writing and started to feel like I don't want them online forever (at least not without major editing). Glad you guys enjoyed them despite their flaws, though!

You say that. Most of us are far too tired to spend our half term yelling at the DfE. We're going to be spending it sleeping, being ill, and trying to find the energy to catch up on housework.

That took me so long to figure out! Having to work out which octave each note is in definitely didn't help - and the positioning of the commas/double "mi" at the end of the first line really confused me too.

My goal when I started teaching myself to play was that I wanted to be able to help out with the odd special occasion - midnight mass and the like - at tiny village churches that otherwise wouldn't have an organist. Books like this put that goal firmly in reach! (I just need a car now...)

Leonore @leonore2.bsky.social · 28/10/2025
Also I found this book in a chaotic second hand bookshop yesterday, which was incredible luck because it has in it about 150 tunes in playable 3-part arrangements which mostly sound very effective and were perfect on these little village organs with no pedals!

Recently I met the organist who plays at a group of local village churches, he told me where some keys were kept and invited me to try them anytime. Well my friend and I went to a couple today and they were cute and quirky and a lot of fun! Got a nice walk in too between them.

NEW: Cardinal Blase Cupich, the Archbishop of Chicago, has issued a new statement declaring that Chicago "communities are shaken by immigration raids and detentions. These actions wound the soul of our city. Let me be clear. The Church stands with migrants."
Statement of Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, on Standing with Immigrants
Oct. 21, 2025
My dear brothers and sisters, today I speak to you as your shepherd, but also as a fellow pilgrim who shares the pain of many of our immigrant communities. Families are being torn apart. Children are left in fear, and communities are shaken by immigration raids and detentions. These actions wound the soul of our city. Let me be clear. The Church stands with migrants.
We stand with a mother who crosses borders to feed her children. We stand with the father who labors in silence to build a better future. We stand with the young person who dreams of safety and a better future. Our parishes and schools will not turn away those who seek comfort, and we will not be silent when dignity is denied in the enforcement of the law, it is essential that we respect the dignity of every human being.
Now I want to say something directly to those immigrants without documents. Most of you have been here for years. You have worked hard. You have raised families. You have contributed to this nation. You have earned our respect. As the Archbishop of Chicago, I will insist that you be treated with dignity. Americans should not forget that we all come from immigrant families.
You are our brothers and sisters. We stand with you.
God bless you all.
