Our students can access information in seconds, so we need to arm them with critical thinking skills and an understanding of the ethics of content creation.

This is an important moment for school libraries to document what happens when student cellphones go away. Do students look to your library, and is the school library ready - and resourced - to meet that moment? Take the survey and share your data:

We are surveying school librarians at cellphone-free schools, partially restricted schools, and schools starting restrictions next academic year to see what circulation, use, and involvement is like pre- and post-policy. All settings matter. Please take the survey:

Librarians and other educators have essential duties to step up & address the issue any time we believe a child is being harmed. This includes being harmed by AI, and make no mistake, it is harming not only our students, but also our adults, and our society.

There are more public libraries nationwide than there are Starbucks or McDonalds, and while they don’t have the reputation for being everywhere that those stores enjoy, public libraries remain as a valuable resource that can turn an interest into a full-blown passion.

"Reclaiming teacher time with AI". Time for what? In the era of shrinking enrollment, be prepared for other duties as assigned, more students added to rosters, and fewer educational support personnel. Be very careful what you wish for; you just might get it.

Every day, write over a “spotlight” as a bellringer. They study the text, write nonstop for 5 minutes, then share their ideas in small groups. It’s an incredible collegiate-level bellringer activity that ensures every student reads, writes, and speaks every class. Tomorrow’s spotlight:
Mike Luckovich’s political cartoon. Armed ICE agents are standing over a gunned down Lady Liberty and a word bubble above says “she was brandishing a torch…”
To the side, my directions and notes read:

Spring Spotlight #2
1) Respond to the text authentically. What do you notice?
2) Consider:
a) What is the author's message?
b) What does this text say about America?

Hey there! I'm Paxton from Facebook or Google or whatever, here to give you an important message about generations.
Fact is, I'd like to speak to all you boomers and Gen X Karens.
Do not trust the young!! They're lazy and socialists and they want to destroy everything you hold dear!
Next, to all you Milennials and Gen Z champs...
Do not trust the old! They're MAGA monsters and they want to destroy your future!
Don't you all feel better!
You see, the important thing is that you pick which generation you wanna hate and focus all your attention on that. Because generations definitely exist and aren't meaningless constructs, and we're not stealing your data. Don't vote!
