Worked from home yesterday in part to monitor the cat. She seems to be coping with the heat just fine.
A tabby cat with a white bib and socks lies on her back on a green sofa. She has her eyes closed and her front paws in the air. She is snoozing contentedly. Her bellyfur is exposed but this is a trap.

This cat has complaints to the manager about the current angle of the sun.
A tabby cat is sitting near the base of some wooden doors. There is a sunbeam that is projecting entirely on to the doors and not yet on to the carpet. She is looking accusingly towards the camera as if she expects better service in the positioning of her sunbeams.

For the last month or so I have been distracting myself from *waves hands at world* by fixating on old English turf mazes. Heres some embroidery based on the two mizmazes in Hampshire at Breamore and on St Catherine's hill.
A green labyrinth within a darker green circle embroidered on white linen. The path of the labyrinth curves back and forth within the circle in a design based around a cross. The embroidered line blends between darker and lighter shades of green to reach an oval at the center. This design is based on the Breamore Mizmaze in Hampshire.A close up of the embroidery of the Breamore Mizmaze showing the shading and lines in more detail but cutting off part of the labyrinth design. This embroidery is satin stitch with a stem stitch outline.A square labyrinth design in cream embroidery on an olive green linen background. This is based on the St Catherine's hill Mizmaze near Winchester, the only square turf maze of the eight historic mazes in England. A closer view of the St Catherine's Mizmaze embroidery. It is completed in overlapping chain stitch creating an almost knitted effect in the line, with a small cream flower in detached chain stitch in the centre.

I've been struggling to work on creative projects for the last few months so I made myself a little embroidery advent calendar to get back into daily sewing, taking some inspiration from @karenjturner.bsky.social. quite happy with how it is going so far...
The picture shows red canvas in a circular embroidery hoop. The shape of a Christmas tree is outlined in white stem stitch with 24 sections marked within the tree in various shapes. 16 sections have been filled in with space filling embroidery stitches in different colours. Eight sections are still empty.

Trying black work embroidery for the first time. Should have learned on aida rather than somewhat slubby linen...

Finished my post-surgery #embroidery project! More or less anatomically correct for yours truly (except not joined up of course). Not sure the gray really works as well as I'd hoped? But that's the years' first embroidery done. RIP colon, I miss you!
Embroidery of the colon and small intestine. Most of the colon except for the very end is in gray. The small intestine is all in black. They're sewn with six strands embroidery floss using back stitch. There's a cluster of flowers in the top left colon bend in various colors: wheel roses, bullion roses, a leaf, lazy daisy vines and embellishments. The hoop is displayed on a thin layer of snow. if not cat toy, why cat toy shaped?
A tabby and white cat sits halfway up some stairs looking through the rails as if behind bars, as she should be. A garland of silvery thread, pearl beads and paper stars is attached to the railings. It is currently doubled up to keep the ends from being repeatedly unhooked and then chewed on. The cat is unrepentant.

These two quilts will both be on show in the anatomy art showcase at the Anatomical Society Winter meeting at UCLan if anyone would like a closer look and is coming to Preston!
Two miniature quilts are shown. One is about 40 cm square and shows three applique versions of the anterior forearm, one with the skeleton, one with deep muscles and ligaments and one with the superficial muscles. The background is blue, the bones are cream and the muscles are shades of red and pink with greyish white tendons. The smaller quilt is about 20 cm by 12 cm and shows the cerebral arterial circle in red using reverse applique, with the ventral surface of the brain in cream embroidery on a black background and the cranial nerves in bright yellow embroidery.

Spending this pre-Christmas period embroidering some heart- warming quotes from winter classics 📚🧶🪡
An embroidery hoop is hanging on a blue wall. Words are embroidered on a cream background in red, green and black text within a red and green wreath above a Christmas pudding and two sprigs of holly. The text reads " every idiot who goes about with Merry Christmas on his lips should be boiled with his own pudding and buried with a stake of holly through his heart". It is from A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

Day 5 #ArtAdventCalendar • One of my text/image #embroidery pieces, tethered by fluid & ligaments (2023). It combines #anatomy with the #symptomatology of my recent biliary issues. #SciArt #MedSky 🧪🐡🧶 You can read more about this piece here: buff.ly/47JL9jB
A red & purple organza liver embroidery on grey linen. The biliary system between the 2 layers is bilious green with yellow beads inside the small lobe. White beads sit on the narrow end of the top organza. An arched T shape with tight white crisscross stitches separates the lobes and curves over the top. Text stitched in light grey single strands read: What roots grow in us. Branch through our landscapes. In love plexuses. a curvature borne. between what is held & what must be held carefully. fleshy beasts tethered. By fluid and ligaments. Such a gentle embrace. Beneath our skin. Here is the thing I broke & then repaired with brightness. Laid open. The spells it holds. A language spoken. Between boughs & flesh. this golden ingot. This tailed beast. And its viscous song. What a miracle these spaces within us. Are what make us whole. What offertory our bodies. The proper invocation of flesh. Placed on the ground. Hosts on tongues. Fleshy language. Each thing precious in its own decay.

I've posted this before but only in the other place, here is a mini mini quilt I made a while ago with some recently added embroidery. #sciart #anatomy
Picture shows a rectangular quilt that is dark grey with a red binding. The shape of the cerebral arterial circle (of Willis) has been exposed using reverse applique to show the background fabric which is shades of red. The shape of the brain has been added in cream and the cranial nerves leaving the brainstem in bright yellow. The intended effect is to show a rough diagram outlined on a chalkboard background, as might be used teaching anatomy.
