I can only apologise for the tangent, but is that a Loaf sofa in your intros?! Perfect cosy TTRPG vibes either way.

I would still throw this entire show in the sea for a few more episodes of Counterpart.

Panicked that my obscenely expensive graphics card had died, but there was a power cut overnight and a bad CMOS battery meant that it had wiped some BIOS settings the card needed to boot. Went to a computer shop and asked for their oldest graphics card (a GT 730!) just to boot once and fix it.

Abolishing the triple lock only to (partially) fund a National Care Service for the same (completely economically unproductive) sector of society is definitely a thing you can do.

No pressure obviously but if you ever start up again, I have no deadlines, lots of flexibility and an established budget if you wanted a trial run. Email me at thom@lawrenc.es sometime (or let me buy you a pint at the Sheffield Tap!)

I could spend an hour a day staring at your stuff imagining all the stories it tells. I love the pair of characters on the far left! One sitting, tired after a long pilgrimage or reeling from some religious revelation, one standing over them calming or cajoling.

We found a lot of old VHS tapes in our storage and have started to digitalize them. Some of the interviews were broadcasted on Dutch TV, so they are in Dutch. Please let us know what you think? We'll try to add more in the next couple of months. XO, the Betties www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Stunning as always, but I think your subconscious is telling you it’s finally time to put your central heating back on.

What’s your schedule with these?! You’re not actually knocking out three in a day between customers are you?

Wonderful hearing @johnaugust.bsky.social (finally!) interviewing Aaron Sorkin on Scriptnotes this week. As an illustration of what a softie I am, they played 90 seconds from a West Wing episode and that was enough to make me cry.

I know it’s a privileged position, but you should just allow yourself to miss opportunities to work with uptight weirdos.

Probably the most fun I’ve had in this iteration of the #mtg Arena cube. Just your typical Thassa’s Oracle/Ouroboroid deck.

At what point does dramatic licence in historical fiction start to piss you off?

The irony being that the US _did_ learn this lesson in multiple rounds of war games but completely ignored it.

The tacticos were right, Racing Santander are one of the most interesting teams to watch right now.

I’ve realised that I don’t just follow you for the art now, your images are hands down the best cure for TTRPG writer’s block I could imagine.

Interested to hear more about your pain points, if you feel like expanding.

If they're going to add Tainted Pact to the #mtgarena cube, they should allow snow covered lands (and Wastes) in deck building.

Anyway, yes modern life is rubbish, and honest, open communication with friends is nourishing. But it’s not your friends and family’s job to cure your mental illness, so sometimes those conversations have to be about treatment (which might include pills!)

It’s weird to describe it this way given the subject matter, but the show is so joyful! Thank you for your stories, and the space you’ve given to all these incredible performers.

Some good stuff in here, including a shout out to @dvatvani.bsky.social et al’s work on the StatsBomb xG model and its approach to outliers. Also I maintain that there is no such thing as possession value, just value, and therefore there is no right ‘window’ for PV models.

FWIW the trend has been towards higher participation in more recent rounds, and recent PISA reports are fairly open about various methodological issues (COVID effect etc). There is probably still some upward but I suspect the broad conclusions upthread are directionally correct.

Somewhat ironic exposition on social media tricks to maintain relevance in that video. I imagine at the top is the long takedown of what turns out to be some incredibly niche faux pas.

Just driven past there on my way back from The Odyssey with the boy. Yours is possibly the better way to end the summer.

Easy to be smug that I don’t know any of the people here, but I watch loads of stuff on YouTube and Patreon, so it sort of goes to show the long tail is very real. We should be deeply heartened by that!

Over the summer, I've written histories of 13 computer games which reached #1 in the UK charts during 1987: superchartisland.com/timeline/#1987 Here is a thread on what the British public was buying that year, with links

There are so many hilarious asides in there though! What must it have been like for Nireus, who was explicitly named only the _second_ prettiest man among the Achaeans, with little else to recommend him?

I remember curating directories of church websites in the 90s. Each one had dancing Jesus gifs, spinning gold crosses, burning bushes, MARQUEE tags. I remember all of us with tenner a month Demon websites. It’s not only AI that professionalises and homogenises everything, that’s just capitalism.

I think the problem with Douglas Adams was that basically anything after the original radio plays was written under duress. But I still think he wrote some of the best lines in history.

021

Thom Lawrence 🍋👀 @lemonwatcher.com · 11/08/2026

Can you talk more about why that’s problematic?

If you happened to be a dairy loving vegetarian (admittedly not the most sound position), those options started getting really good and tasty in the UK, only to be largely replaced by less tasty vegan stuff, or worse, vegan meat replacement options like burgers.

110

Thom Lawrence 🍋👀 @lemonwatcher.com · 10/08/2026

I think more people should be vegan but I think vegans have ruined most restaurant menus for me personally.
