Also because it is Ashland of course we must have Shakespeare-themed protest signs. #Ashland #RogueValley #NoKings
A hand-lettered protest sign that reads:
"It is a tale
told by an Idiot,
full of sound and fury,
Signifying Nothing."
Wm Shakespeare, MacBeth Act 5, Scene 5

A view down the main drag of Ashland, Oregon, with people lining the street for the No Kings protest. There is a prominent shadow of me standing in the street to take this photo.

The lack of good breakfast potatoes in the Rogue is so disturbing to me I have a completely bonkers idea of opening up a home fries food truck; you get a big bowl of really excellent fried potatoes with a choice of toppings eggs or waffle or gravy or hatch chile sauce 😋

Mostly what we do when we travel to California is eat things we can't seem to easily find in the rogue valley: great Mexican food, great breakfasts (especially good home fried potatoes), and any sort of banh mi. I have not yet had to make a huge 99 Ranch/H Mart raid but that is probably on the […]

Spent the last week-ish in the Bay Area and in southern California, hopefully our last road trip of the year. Here is your obligatory freeway photo of The Big Mountain.
A photo taken out the car window of a freeway rail, some scrubby brush on a tan hillside, a very blue sky with a few clouds, and a very large mountain (Mount Shasta) in the distance.

Shitgenstein

I met a traveler from an inland state
Who said: Two vast and humming racks of steel
Stand in the cornfield. Near them, on the plain,
Half buried in weed, a broken server face lies,
Its stilled fans, its dulled and blinking lights,
Tell that its builders knew the hype well
Which once ran through these halls, now cold and still,
The hands that fed them and the minds that made:
And on the switchroom wall these words remain:
“My name is Jensen Huang, CEO of CEOs:
Look on my cloud compute, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that great digital ruin, boundless and bare
The autumn fields stretch flat and far away.
