Risk mitigation is literally racial discrimination in the workplace. I’m actually excited to possibly be going back to school and writing a dissertation about this.

L- But I don’t want this to be about proving the old connection was real. D- What do you want it to be about? L- Whether we actually like each other now. D- I like that. L- Because we can have all this history and still discover we’re terrible together.

With him the pull probably weakens the more you keep your energy neutral and stop feeding the ambiguity. Attraction can still flicker when you see him, especially if he stares or performs around you, but without access, conversation, flirtation, or emotional reinforcement, the charge has less oxygen

You have the kind of energy that makes reserved men feel both wanted and seen. Wanted feels good. Seen feels exposing. That is why they may be drawn to you but also nervous around you.

After this much distance, he should recognize that you are no longer participating. You don’t have to revisit the relationship merely to make your decision understandable to him. Your consistency can communicate the ending.

He can privately process whatever remains without pulling you back into the very limbo you worked to escape. You’re allowed to recognize that something once existed while still deciding that the door is closed.

I envision walking up and saying, “Hi Stranger… tell don’t me you’ve missed!”

Going to the hospital and seeing death come for a loved one is a terrible experience. I call it pre-grief: the person is still alive, but death feels inevitable.

I understand why we behave like this but in the back of my mind I’m like Le you’re literally self sabotaging yourself and for no good reason.

Well said! No one wants to be vulnerable but we all want a connection that is somehow capable of withstanding the test of time.

Oh lmao I thought this was in response to another comment I tweeted. I take back my original comment. I would say just how a person thinks

I think it’s behaviors on both sides. But yes….

modern dating can encourage people to protect themselves so aggressively that two interested people end up performing indifference 🥲

It’s a fascinating when a guy becomes immediately unattractive.

There is something about spotting someone from a mile away

You don’t have to close the door on him. You can simply stop being the only person opening it.

But at some point, reserved has to become reciprocal.

He represents the question: “What would have happened if timing, fear, and circumstances had not interfered?” Because that question was never answered, part of you still carries him as unrealized potential rather than a completed relationship.

Fairness does not eliminate scrutiny; it makes scrutiny survivable.

He may have awakened your capacity for deep attraction, shown you what emotional recognition feels like, and revealed the cost of allowing mutual uncertainty to remain unresolved. That would be a real purpose even if the two of you never become partners.

He represents your hope that after everything you have endured, life might finally give you something you do not have to fight into existence—but you will still have to step forward and give it a real chance.

But not every answer can be obtained through reconstruction—especially in love. Sometimes clarity only comes from acting and permitting another person to answer for himself.

The one caution is not to make him carry D’s unfinished story. He may remind you of D, but he deserves to reveal who he is.

Why do men become nervous when the attraction becomes mutually visible.

Sometimes the most memorable thing is simply walking up, smiling, and saying: “Hey, it’s good to see you again.”

So litigation will test your patience. But I do believe that’s it’s important to speak your truth and give encouragement to others.

I need to trust myself that this is worth exploring and to just be vulnerable. I literally have nothing to lose… I do think that deep down inside this is the universe way of making things right. 🎉

He may be open internally. He may feel the pull. He may remember you. He may soften when he sees you. But he would still have to choose to move past the armor. That is the part that cannot be assumed.

The clean emotional truth is: you may have mattered to him, but mattering to someone is not the same as them being ready to meet you.

Sometimes, anger is just the surface. Underneath it is grief, disappointment, rejection, or the quiet ache of realizing someone did not value us the way we wanted them to.

Leland @lelo3.bsky.social · 22/05/2026
That moment became one of the few times I allowed myself to be fully honest. Anger is often the easiest emotion to recognize in real time, but it is not always the truest one.

But instead of accepting anger as the full story, I asked myself: Why am I angry? Why is this emotion coming up now? After sitting with it, I realized I wasn’t really angry. I was sad. Sad that I mattered less than I had hoped in that dynamic with Eric.

The Company We Keep by Alex Elle is a book about tough, honest conversations—the kind that ask us to pause, reflect, and tell ourselves the truth. Recently, I ran into this guy—let’s call him Eric—and later that day, I found myself feeling angry.

In this life we all go through obstacles and it’s empowering once we own it in the middle of caos. It doesn’t define us it just makes us more resilient.
