Would 100% watch a sitcom in which Cuomo and Dershowitz end up roommates, Dershowitz is denied a pierogi every episode in exactly the same way, and Cuomo runs for successively lower-stakes office each week, only to lose again.

As usual, Fiona McFarlane's gifts astonished me with 'The Sun Walks Down'. I read the physical book.

'Our Evenings' by Alan Hollinghurst was languorous and delightful company, as read by Prasanna Puwanarajah.

I found Belinda Probert's 'Bill's Secrets' respectful approach in uncovering her father's history quite poignant. I got the physical book from Upswell Publishing Australia.

Holly Brickley's 'Deep Cuts' is a music lover's deep dive, a love story, and a hoot. I read the physical book.

Jessica Stanley delivers with 'Consider Yourself Kissed', a beautifully written love story that weaves in current affairs and contemporary challenges for women and mothers. I listened to the audiobook narrated by the fabulous Lydia Leonard.

I also enjoyed the audio production of Ashley Kalagian Blunt's 'Like Follow Die', a compelling story told exceedingly well and exposing current societal fissures in a clear (and terrifying) way.

Wow, I read/listened to some great books in June. My favourite for this month (and possibly this year) is Catherine Chidgey's amazing 'The Book of Guilt' which I read a physical copy of. #BookSky

I'm sorry but the largest protest of my lifetime is not the 7th or 8th biggest news story in the country behind "what does Gen Z want from Instagram?" This shit is humiliating. Rearrange your layout to meet this moment. Omitting the thing happening in every American city is malpractice.

Kristi Noem must resign. She has deported a four year old with cancer, detained a U.S. marshal, and arrested two members of Congress. She’s lost the confidence of the American people. ICE must stop terrorizing our communities.

The books I mention in my monthly round-up are books I would recommend. I DNF others that received rave reviews as thrillers (or 'TikTok favourite!') and all three deeply disappointed me. #booksky

'Eileen' by Ottessa Moshfegh is a dark psychological thriller in the mode of Patricia Highsmith. Set in 1960s Massachusetts, Eileen is a pretty unlikeable narrator whose intense point-of-view makes it impossible to look away. #booksky

'We All Live Here' by Jojo Moyes is a breezy, character-driven domestic tale that satisfyingly brings home the themes of forgiveness and the importance of family. A balm for the soul. #booksky

'Highway Thirteen' is a collection of linked stories by my new favourite author Fiona McFarlane. They orbit around a serial killer's crimes (think Ivan Milat) but focus on the victims, the greater impact of the crimes, and the weird ways we as society deal with evil. McFarlane is a master. #booksky

Harriet Walter, who has played many of Shakepeare's woman, has imagined speeches for them, exploring their deeper feelings and motivations. I actually preferred the sections preceding her imaginative takes, where Walter discusses the characters, the plays and her experiences on stage. #booksky

Helen Garner occupies the same corner in my brain as Joan Didion - two clear-eyed observers who could write about anything and I would read it. This is a beautiful book about boys growing into men, ageing, love and loss, community and joy. It is about bearing witness, and about being a writer.

Careless People, the memoir that Meta tried to stop (thus ensuring its best-seller status) is a fantastic read. Sarah Wynn-Williams is a great storyteller with an eye for the absurd. The details shared in this book reflect the dangerous technocratic era we are living in.

Kerry Anderson's WIP, The Women of Parker's Flat, is set in rural Victoria and centres around a businesswoman and her intuitive daughter. It is an exploration and celebration of bush women, now and in the past, and has the warmth of a Fiona Palmer novel with a dash of Picnic at Hanging Rock.

I adored Jonathan Coe's The Proof of My Innocence. It's clear that Coe had a wonderful time devising this clever, fun and engrossing political thriller/cosy mystery/detective novel/memoir/brilliant satire. Highly recommended.

Rachel Khong's Real Americans is a real feat - three POVs, a moving timeline, and a mystery at its core. This complex story kept my attention though the ending left me a little flat.

From the first paragraph, All Fours by Miranda July had me hooked, but as the story progressed and got progressively weirder, I was less engaged. Still, I would recommend All Fours to particular people, but not generally. What I admired most about it was July's courage as a writer.
