So very sorry to hear about the death of Chris Wickham - one of the greatest medieval historians of our times and a good friend. He was a brilliant, ground-breaking and deeply insightful man from whom I (and many others) learned a great deal. And a terrific writer too... #RIP

Learned today that illness, accident, and sorrow were the accepted reasons for a Swedish 17th-c. professor to miss their lectures, a public defence, or to be absent from administrative meetings Tells a lot about life in the 17th century, when sorrow was a constant companion to all #earlymodern
A still life with a scull on a book and beside them a candle that has been recently blown out, it is still smoking lightly. It is written Memento mori under the still life.

The thinly veiled idea, afaik, is to make people give up their claims. To make them think it's not worth the hassle. Well, I won't be giving up and I don't think I'll be flying with SAS anymore if I can help it.

I asked Customer Service for the contact info for the Expenses Team, but they told me that they don't have that information. So I'm supposed to contact a team that I can't contact. Great. They've clearly made it nearly impossible to get ahold of anyone…

SAS Scandinavian Airlines has been processing my complaint for nearly three months now. Well over a month ago they told me that my complaint was with the Expenses Team and not the Customer Service team. I would need to contact the former instead of the latter…

Excited to read Ulrik Langen and Peter Wessel Hansen’s new book on urban complaints from eighteenth-century Copenhagen
Picture showing a hardcover copy a new book by Ulrik Langen and Peter Wessel Hansen concerning urban complaints in eighteenth-century Copenhagen. The book's title is "Byen klager. Konflikt og retfærdighed i 1700-tallet", published by Gyldendal in 2026.

Yesterday I raised the flag to half-mast at my museum in memory King Harald V of Norway who passed away. The late king was much-loved by the people, a true ‘folkekonge’

The new local history calendar I made is out! This is the second one I’ve edited, but the museum’s been publishing these for over 30 years now. It’s tradition and one I’m proud to work on. It's full of historical photos that, hopefully, show the breadth of our place in Arctic history

I love eighteenth-century sass
Footnote from a 1794 book. The footnote reads: "When the author here and there speaks a little too freely about the professors, he does at least not fear reproach for partiality, seeing as how he himself is a professor, and a professor at a very richly endowed university."

I actually stayed up to watch the Norway-Brazil match, my first of the World Cup. While everyone is going on about Braut Haaland (yes, his goals were great), the show was really all Nyland who made absolutely amazing saves. It was Nyland’s game. 🇳🇴

They're all a bit scratched and damaged as a result of how they’ve been stored. There’s also no way I’ll be able to reconstruct their provenance. The current plan is to scan and organise them in acid-free envelopes, and hope the local community can provide information. (2/2)

Found a drawer at my museum full of unprocessed photographs, like this one. Currently fuming at whoever threw photos and negatives in there. Some were in regular envelopes (no markings), and some were strewn about loosely. (1/2)

I was referred to a specialist due to worsening tinnitus. The good news is it’s stress-related, as there’s nothing physically wrong with my ears. In fact, apparently, I have excellent hearing. So if I can’t make out what you’re saying, you’re probably just mumbling (take that from a fellow mumbler)
