I’m learning so much from this photo!

I have quite a few diving duck species nearby, but I very seldom can get close to them

Crazy awesome little dinosaurs 😄

No kidding? I had no idea. I'm going to have to find my cat and look at their eyes

Caught mid-blink! How cool is that?! Did you know herons have a special see-through eyelid called a nictitating membrane? It protects their eyes while keeping their vision sharp! Nature’s coolest built-in goggles! #birds #photography #heron #nature #photo #eastcoastkin

A close-up photo of a Great Blue Heron, showing intricate feather patterns with fine, wispy plumes draping over its back. The heron’s sharp, orange beak is prominent, and its yellow eye is partially covered by a translucent, milky-white nictitating membrane mid-blink. The background features soft, circular bokeh highlights from sunlight reflecting on water, adding a shimmering effect behind the heron. The heron’s head feathers have a slight windblown look, with long, dark plumes trailing from the back of its head. The image captures fine details of the heron’s textures and colors with a beautiful blend of natural light and soft background blur.

Michael, that is an absolutely beautiful photo. Very well done!

Not 100% sure his beak lets him do that 😂

Oh, just wait— there are a few things we love more than herons on blue sky 😂

Thanks Jumahl, I appreciate it!

Thank you, I just started it a couple weeks ago. It still need some love, but it has been fun so far :)

Hopefully my recent post with the #EastCoastKin tag brings a few curious people over to the hashtag.

Thanks Mark, I’m really pleased with how the background turned out on this one.

That is high on my list of places to go to. I’ve photographed birds on 5 of the 7 continents—just need Africa and Antarctica. Hopefully within the next 3-5 years I’ll be able to save up for both.

The details on this one are exquisite—I was really happy with how sharp it came out!

This was taken at Mason Neck State Park in Virginia this past Sunday.
