What Jason Arday’s death says about our society
A tragic death as a man is hounded to suicide by a right wing campaign and the British press. What must we learn from it, asks Simon Hannah?

Disability is an incredibly limiting thing, but it doesn't have to be. We don't think it's a controversial statement to say that society should be designed & built for the people in it, not to match a budget sheet. 1/3

Join us and York Dpac for our online talk and discussion on the impact of eugenicist ideology on disabled people and all marginalised groups on 4th December 6pm. Register at www.eventbrite.com/e/eugenics-p... or scan the QR code.
Disabled People have much to fear from the discredited pseudo-science of eugenics.

This presentation explores key themes followed by an opportunity for questions. The session contains some distressing content. We advise caution as there will be depictions & discussion of harm being done to disabled people and other groups.

•	Slides will be audio described
•	BSL interpretation
•	Closed captions available

Poster for event with Leeds DPAC and York DPAC logos. Image shows drawing of tree with title of EUGENICS across it. Sub text reads "Eugenics is the self direction of human evolution" and "Like a tree eugenics draws its materials from many sources and gives them organic unity and purpose". The roots of the tree have words associated with eugenics on it, such as genetics, anthropology and heredity.

Leeds DPAC urgently calls on other local DPAC groups and DPOs in the UK and internationally to publicly stand against Israel's unrelenting genocide and occupation of Palestine… #freepalestine #disabilityjustice @thecanaryuk.bsky.social www.thecanary.co/long-read/20...
Leeds DPAC urgently calls on other local DPAC groups and DPOs in the UK and internationally to publicly stand against Israel's unrelenting genocide and occupation of Palestine…

…and stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, including disabled Palestinians and those being disabled en masse by Israel with the support of the US and European powers, including the UK government.

Forced displacement, forced starvation, and disablement via bombing, sniping, trauma, systematic torture and the constant threat of violence are disability issues that affect the whole of the Palestinian population.

As disabled people and allies facing our own issues as a result of the international attack on human and disability rights, it is imperative that we are concerned with the collective liberation of all peoples, recognising that our struggles are deeply connected.
Leeds DPAC recognises that the violent state repression of the Palestinian solidarity movement is a crackdown on all civil rights, including disabled people's right to protest too.

We understand that Palestine is a Disability Justice issue for the reasons outlined in this article and by many others.

Friends and allies – we call you to speak out for a free Palestine and an end to the persecution of all those speaking up in the UK and across the world.

Oi, Labour! The UN wants a f*#£ing word.

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities just sent a letter to the UK government

It says what do you think you're playing at?

ID2: In particular, the Committee requests clarification on the following:

1. The extent to which an impact assessment has been carried out on the consequences of budget cuts introduced by the Bill on disability benefits.

2. The extent to which the measures envisaged by Bill will impact, in particular, young persons, new claimants of disability benefits, women with disabilities, persons with disabilities with high level of supports, persons with psychosocial disabilities, and persons with disabilities which require access to mental health care and support.

3. The changes introduced by the Bill to the eligibility criteria of Personal Independent Payment, including changes to assessment thresholds and conditionality and sanctions for benefit recipients.

4. The limitations to the Universal Credit Health elements envisaged by the Bill.

5. Any measures to address the foreseeable risk of increasina novertv rates amonast nersons with
disabilities if cuts are approved.

6. The consultation to the Government Green Paper 'Pathways to Work', released on 18 March 2025, only to 10 out of the 22 policy changes proposed.

7. The extent to which persons with disabilities and their representative organizations, including deaf persons and their representative organizations have been closely consulted and actively involved in the drafting of the Bill and the parliamentary process for the consideration of the Bill.

8. Limited scrutiny of the Bill by the House of Lords as the former has been considered by the Government as a "Money Bill".

9. Public statements by politicians and authorities portraying persons with disabilities as making profit of social benefits, making false statements to get social and disability benefits or being a burden to society.

10. The extent to which other…
