Yes I agree, you’re clearly closed minded and not aware of the facts There’s plenty of information out there on this both from the left and right

In addition big business is hoovering up the work offering zero rights employment on the above basis (assuming the work stays in this country), overcharging for it They’ve put the one man businesses out of operation meaning less competition and more profits for them £8bill in the public sector!

Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
They have “checks notes” stopped assessing for ir35 altogether So no rights No employment package Business costs faced by the worker No notice period No redundancy pay No holiday pay No sick pay You’re confusing stated goals with operation reality

And when more and more (what should be) perminant jobs become offered on an Inside ir35 basis - then everyone will see the issue The big businesses who lobbied for the 2017-2021 changes will be even more delighted

So how is the idea of the costs of doing business being forced upon the worker who are denied the same treatment as regular employment (costing £1000s) considered the same tax treatment? this happens to low paid gig workers not just people in my position. (My dad was at one point in that position)

Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
That’s fine I’m just getting annoyed by people with no lived experience of this talking with authority andy denying the real consequences of this Once more, the left is doing the right’s job for them by allowing this exploitation of working people!

Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Well how about you see the observed reality of working with ir35 rather than just judge from assumptions? Bin off your cushy full time employment and see how well you enjoy big business passing their costs and responsibilities directly onto you?

As for truss and reform - stopped clock syndrome is a thing and it applies here
100
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
And yours isn’t a subjective view? Inside 35 allows big business to exploit workers far more than outside ir35 Big business (who lobbied for this) aren’t just denying rights they’re passing on £1000s on business costs to the worker (including low paid gig workers)

Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
a sledgehammer where a scalpel was neeeded But as the big beneficiaries of these of this are large consultancies who “advised” HMRC on this policy I doubt it was that accidental Inside ir35 is worse for those people pushed into it against there will as now they have to bare employer costs
100
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
I’m talking about inside ir35 Outside ir35 you can bare those costs through the business Inside ir35 businesses pass on those costs to the worker who must pay out of there net (not gross!) remuneration

A 3 day week away from home over a 100 mile away with overnight stay meals etc which is typical for a contractor can in no reasonable mind be considered a normal commute
000
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
And then there’s all the business travel which is typical for contractors which can run into 5 figures
100
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Eg £1000 worth of training No tax (or cost) for the employee Employees can deduct both 25% corp tax and 20% VAT Inside you pay the £1000 after PAYE taxes (with the tax on that about £725 at the higher rate)
200
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Employees get equipment, training, business travel (and more) tax free to an employee, tax deductible to a business - inside ir35 this comes out of personal renumeration. If inside IR35 cannot get the same tax treatment as employees/employers then the same tax is not being paid
200
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
The basic notion that someone inside ir35 pays the same tax as an employee Pointing out the flaw in that argument and highlighting where it will come back to bite Labour (and other Ir35 supporters) now perminant jobs are becoming inside ir35 as well
100
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Well as big business have spotted the incredibly obvious notion that putting someone inside ir35 is an easy way to avoid the employment rights act (and pass on their business costs to the worker at the same time) Labour will eventually realise they are doing the right’s job for them
100
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
So when will employees start paying the same tax as inside ir35 on their training, business travel equipment etc….
100
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
An employee receives equipment, training and business travel and much more these are tax free to an employee and tax deductible to a business. If IR35 is correct taxation then we are left with the logic conclusion that the employee/employer relationship avoids taxes!
000
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
When did liberal become left in the uk rather than the middle ground between conservatism and socialism?
001
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Remove the deductions from employers and make the employee pay these out of their own money, then we will get close to having equal taxation! Insane I know, but if you think that contractors and employees should pay the same tax - then this is fair and correct taxation!
000
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Equipment, training, business travel (inc hotel and food), plus much more - All tax free to an employee and tax deducatable to a business. If IR35 is correct taxation then we are left with the logical but ludicrous idea where the employee/employer model is a loophole to avoid taxes on the above!
100
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
If contractors should pay the same tax as employees Then employees should pay the same tax as contractors If #IR35 is correct taxation then by that logic employees are dodging a hell of a lot of tax

Reform are still cunts but it’s the only pro worker anti big business measure they have
000
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
Being inside ir35 doesn’t stop business avoiding employer responsibilities They’re still avoided when someone is classed inside IR35 Being inside IR35 also means that big business can pass on their business taxes and expenses to the worker, assuming they’re not offshoring the role in the 1st place

How much tax do workers in Asia doing formerly British high-paid IT work pay there? How much tax is being sent abroad by big business hoovering up UK IT work? Why can big business pass legitimate business costs onto UK workers while giving them virtually no employment rights?
020
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
And no I’m not a Reform or Restore (or Tory) voter
000
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
You'd think the left would be against that
100
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
But hey, big multinational businesses hoovering up the work, making it zero-rights work (which is what IR35 does), assuming the work even stays in this country rather than being outsourced to Asia — and that’s before we get onto whether big business pays its tax here or abroad
100
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Equipment, business travel (inc accom & food), training + more — tax FREE to employees, tax DEDUCTIBLE to a business If IR35 is correct tax, then employees pay tax on these and remove these deductions from employers And that’s before businesses pass their tax liabilities to the worker
100
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 13/08/2026
And then we should talk about employees paying for it out of their take home pay too
000
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 13/08/2026
I'd challenge that "same tax" claim. Employees get equipment, training and travel (plus more), which is tax free to them and tax deductable to business. If ir35 is correct taxation, then employees need to be paying full tax on these, and the deduction removed from employers!

Fixed term zero rights employment with overcharging big businesses passing their costs onto the people doing the work is still with us Those jobs big business aren’t offshoring anyway Rishi’s wife’s business made a killing Has anyone worked out how much tax people in India pay here yet?
020
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 07/08/2026
If you could devise a policy that meant big business could absorb most of the work, overcharge for it, send many of those roles abroad — and maybe the profits too — while passing business costs onto the worker on a fixed term zero rights basis You’d have thought the left would be against it! #IR35

HMRC targeting media figures where it’s a much greyer issue has done a lot to poison the well with the general public

Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
It's not just the tax that gets me. It's business foisting all the stuff that employees get free and businesses get tax deductions on - expecting Inside IR35 contractors to pay out of their own pocket
110
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
Yep and the moment you even mention the concept of "tax dodging" in the UK everyone loses their mind and sides with HMRC etc...

Actually corporation tax + dividend tax is more or less equal to PAYE taxes for the worker. Perhaps the dodge is big business pushing its costs onto contractors, paid from personal remuneration, whereas for employees they are tax-free and tax-deductible to the business. Dodging employment rights too
000
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 02/06/2026
The Employment Rights Bill is easily circumvented by businesses increasingly offering what should be permanent roles on an inside-IR35 contract basis.
000
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 01/06/2026
Had a suspicion that perminant roles are being turned into inside ir35 roles for a while now Finally after seeing ones which had a whiff off it, I’ve now got the first one which clearly shows it happening Classic backfire effect of the employee rights act

You nailed it last night

Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/04/2026
2/2 Normally I'd complain, but given how many people think that fixed term zero rights employment with business costs coming out of personal remuneration was acceptable, I'm actually glad they'll see how exploitative it is, and may we finally get a reasonable solution to the IR35 fiasco.
000
Lee @leech47.bsky.social · 21/04/2026
1/2 It's starting to very much look like what should be permanent jobs are now starting to be offered on an Inside IR35 basis.

If anyone wants a billion £ idea, the invent an app which stops the iPhone “autocorrect” turning correct English into incorrect English and just works on words that are actually spelt incorrectly.
