So 'The Apothecary Diaries' returns, and ep.1 is all exposition and set-up! There's the vacuum left by the destruction of the Shi clan, no end of background politicking, and what looks like an impending locust plague. No Jinmao action yet, but I can wait... Still one of the best shows on TV.

This is not the win Trump claimed it was. Additions to previous agreements include commitments to security and a right to query non-NATO foreign investment. The biggest worry is the lack of an end-date and a commitment to strongarm an independent Greenland into NATO. Otherwise, this is a fig leaf.

So, my big contribution to 'Air & Armor: BAOR' was the terrain analysis of the map for the I (BR) Corps area, circa 1986. Now artworked by Bruce Yearian, here's a portion of the map: the so-called 'Water Sandwich' north of the Para Group Hildesheim urban area. Nasty to attack and defend.

So, one of the best romance shows of the year is 'You and I Are Polar Opposites', which has this banging track by Mega Shinnosuke over the end credits. If the credits style looks familiar, they are animated by Lapin Track, who gave us the brilliant mystery series 'Shoshimin: How to Become Ordinary'.

In historical comics: with the TV adaptation coming to an end I decided to read 'A Witch's Life in Mongol' by Tomato Soup, an account of the life of Fatima Khatun, who served the medieval Mongol court. Her superpower was being literate and schooled in Greek science. It's a corking tale, deftly told.

I like to take a good movie and perfect it with one or two casting changes. My go-to example is: 'Crimson Tide', which saw Tony Scott at his restrained best. It could have been perfected by replacing Denzel with Andre Braugher. Denzel can chew furniture, but Andre was the smartest man in the room.

There are some shows that just make me gasp. Episode 6 of 'Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia' ends with two women, taken as plunder by the Mongol horde, vowing to bring down the empire by sowing dissension between the former emperor Genghis Khan's sons. It's haunting, breathtaking stuff.

'Draw This, Then Die!', about a high school manga club, is a wonderful paean to creativity. However, the true protagonist is not the kids but their teacher, who failed at her own professional comics career despite her talent, and is DESPERATE not to let her charges experience the same misery.

So, 'QuestWorlds' came out last year. We're currently working on a settings book for 'Ouvergend', a Tsarpunk world of thieves and revolutionaries. Also a book on the bronze-age world of Glorantha. Also in the works are 'Pioneer Space' (raygun SF), and 'Age of Miracles' (1970s superheroes in NYC).

Just got a copy of Dangerous Dave's new book, 'The Unmaking of Hudson Hawk', where he sweetly namechecks me in the intro.
