I’m thinking about similarity at the moment and realised that I haven’t done a Less, Same, More for ages. (I first came across the task type in a session from John Mason I think) Does this work?

When I was putting this sequence together, this isn't how I expected the third one to look! Did you?

I just walked past this and noticed three triangles. I’m pretty confident that, if this was done accurately, the three triangles are congruent. Are you convinced? How do you see it?

I agree with @honeypisquared.bsky.social and @darrenmacey.bsky.social that there’s a lot to like in this book, but this image for multiplication of mixed numbers made me itch *so* much!

This is maybe the best introduction to a maths education book ever?! From ‘Seeing the Math You Teach’ which I bought after listening to this creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/... from @honeypisquared.bsky.social and @darrenmacey.bsky.social

I’m about 1/4 of the way through and big recommend for this by @georginasturge.bsky.social Stats has never been my favourite thing, but this is properly interesting.

It’s great to be with senior leaders from across the @jurassicmaths.bsky.social and @codemathshub.bsky.social, region coming together to consider evidence based practice with @catscutt.bsky.social

It’s fair to say that I got some ‘odd’ looks taking this picture at Paddington today but I thought it was a really interesting set up! How many cubicles are there in total? How do you know?

I like this. I think we often assume that mathematical thinking is a special thing. My reading of this is that it’s a sharper focus on a particular subset of things that we probably do anyway.

I’ve just looked up the ppt - the task I used was from @profsmudge.bsky.social’s Algebradabra book - here’s the slide (I can’t get Bluesky to insert a screenshot so this is a low tech version!)

Question from my daughter’s home work. For you, would this task fall into the category of ‘multiplicative reasoning’ or is it something else? If so, what?!

So… on a number line like this I know you could mark the number 0.5 and you could mark where the number ½ is, but where would you mark 50%? Or does 50% not fit on a number line?

Years ago @profsmudge.bsky.social did something like this. I’ve built on it a bit with a series of short tasks - does this work? I’d appreciate any thoughts. (I’m trying to get beyond “add them all up and divide” to thinking about how the equal sharing works)
