You can have that debate without implying that every journalist working in that space is conspiring to mislead the public.

15 likes vs. 6.2k likes. It's rhetoric like this that continues to turn everyday ppl away from anyone who works for a MSM outlet regardless of how good they are as a journalist. the silly part: you can have an interesting debate abt when as a journo you shld choose to break rules for greater good.

It's right next to his office. It's one of two visible ways he can get to it. I honestly couldn't tell you how many times I've photographed him walking through that spot either to or from the chamber or to or from a presser.

Actually it is a long standing rule that video isn't allowed in this spot. Your argument is not about self-censorship due to content, your argument is more about whether journos should break the rules and get their passes revoked for the story.

Sorry, I don't know why I said you only see stills from press conferences, I meant you only see stills from that spot when politicians are walking or moving bc of the video ban. You WILL see specific video from a controlled presser that doesn't face the chamber doors.

But ah, who cares about nuance anymore? Source on US capitol rules:

The nuance of this convo is that video is not allowed in that part of the Capitol, that's why you only see stills from those press conferences. You could argue about whether someone should choose to break the rule and get their pass revoked, this is different from ppl self-censoring due to content.

For journalists covering protests and civil unrest: I made a PPE guide for you considering affordability. It's divided into "GOLD STANDARD $$$$", "MORE AFFORDABLE $$$" and "LAST RESORT (but likely stupid)". #safety #journalism #protectthepress #protest #freepress

I still feel that the fact that most photojournalists were never given access to hospitals/treatment spaces had a profound effect on the public's understanding of the numbers. Some PJs got access, but most of us were shut out. Private hospitals. Hospitals afraid of losing federal funding...

I wonder if there is also a way to bring in small makers, too. People who would spend $20 on Meta ads. Does this start to look like a database? Like what google once was before the system became rigged? I don't know... but I feel like we need to be thinking creatively.

Thanks Devon. Im in the catch-22 part of the dream/reality phase of needing to survive in my personal life & also exploring this other journalism dream. Catch-22 bc I gotta survive but I also need capital to actually truly explore this thing.

We journalists who are exploring these dreams need to pull in experts who aren't journalists but have good hearts and believe in democracy and a free press.

The amount of journalists out of work today who simply want to do journalism but there are no jobs... it's astounding. And that's coming from someone who got into the industry right as the Great Recession started.

I’m sure you do and I hope you keep doing it. Mine is also not a hot take and it’s not about WH press corps reporting, it’s about ANY journalist who has to report from a dangerous, difficult situation.
010
Leah Millis @leahmillis.bsky.social · 26/04/2026
Ok I really am not following what you’re talking about. No hard feelings, just trying to clarify that it actually is not super simple on the ground during a chaotic, dangerous breaking news scenario. Be well.
010
Leah Millis @leahmillis.bsky.social · 26/04/2026
So you understand it’s not so simple as who what when why where how when you can’t move or talk to anyone who can verify that info.

Leah Millis @leahmillis.bsky.social · 26/04/2026
Friend, if there is a brief from a PIO about this, it would not be less than an hour after it happened. There prob still hasn’t been one.
100
Leah Millis @leahmillis.bsky.social · 26/04/2026
Sorry did you just say they have to wait for the PIO? But you’re demanding them to be faster than the PIO at the same time? It actually is hard if you can’t move from the room you’re in and nobody from law enforcement is talking to you.
100
Leah Millis @leahmillis.bsky.social · 26/04/2026
TONS more and much more quickly than at the event sans journalists. If you want to talk about whether or not journos should have been there in the first place, that’s simply a different convo.
000
Leah Millis @leahmillis.bsky.social · 26/04/2026
Have you ever been in a situation wherein you thought you might die and you had to gather the news but you were unable to move from the place you were at? That’s what I’m talking about. If you compare this to a breaking news event that had zero journalists nearby I bet we know

Leah Millis @leahmillis.bsky.social · 26/04/2026
I actually saw quite a lot of journalism happening pretty quickly. The main issue was that the vast majority if not the majority of the journalists did not witness whatever happened to cause this entire thing to go down.
