THE FIG TREE by @costantia.bsky.social and @leahgiles.bsky.social is out today! War separates two sides of an island, and a solitary tree brings together two children across the divide, in this touching picture book with a star from SLJ ❤️ bit.ly/4mUARWk #edusky #picturebooks #librarian

A picture book cover. The title is The Fig Tree: A story about building friendship and peace in Cyprus, written by Costantia Manoli, illustrated by Leah Giles. The cover depicts two children looking up at figs falling from a grand, tall tree.

A page from the picture book The Fig Tree. Text from left to right reads: The old tree remembers fig-picking days from years before, when the two sides of her divided island were bound together; friends gathered to collect her fruit while children played. Then they spread their patchwork blankets under her gauzy shade to share food and recipes, stories and songs, until their shadows stretched long on the ground.

The page depicts a beautiful idyllic scene of a large fig tree in a field of green grass, with a blue sky and a small white house on the horizon. Kids play in the tree, sit on pink blankets together, and eat food.
