but it does make sense on reflection, at least just logically, because i had burnt-out and quit my job the prior November and then was unemployed and draining my savings account until that May/June ... and instead of doing anything productive, i was just sad and dumb (per uszh).

i'm sorry, but people are morons. i think i've seen at least like 3,100+ movies in my life, and i'm almost always locked-in, solo cinema visits, no phone, no laptop when watching at home. spoilers incoming, but this was actually pretty incredible for a 3-act 90-minute trauma-horror-metaphor.

i'm going to a showing in ~2 hours, and anna biller's over on twitter posting screenshots of 1-star reviews from letterboxd as i sit here in line-of-sight to one of my two framed photo-print screencaps of "The Love Witch", and my hopes for this movie are so genuinely high that i can't even speak.

i liked the Ben Wheatley "Rebecca" version, though i feel like it could've done a little more. and this "Bluebeard's Wives" version with Abbey Lee that has some interesting twists. and of course "Ex Machina" was really really great too. sure, it's unfair to compare to a 5 minute music video but 🤷‍♀️
