What the currawongs are saying

Traditional drawing of a pied currawong making (part of) its call, which I’ve transcribed as “c’mooonn, gimme a break!”. Currawongs have distinct regional accents and there’s a lot of variation in calls between groups. The ones whose territory I live in sound extra expressive

This one is making the typical “curra-wong” call that I’ve transcribed as “come out, come out, wherever” in spooky wiggly text

Its bloom is well finished but I managed to get a couple pics. A couple flowers must’ve been pollinated bc I’ve ended up with orchid seed pods for the first time ever?!

Dendrobium speciosum with two flower spikes in bloom.

Closeup of the flowers. The whiter ones are the newest.

Huge freaking seed pod and a second smaller one against my hand.

i'm glad i full sent it on the weird biotech of this future which is otherwise very blocky and utilitarian. i'm a spec bio nerd at heart. enjoy the brain hole

loose digital sketch of the wyvern's artificial anatomy, specifically its spinal column, brain case, and access hatch. its brain/central computer is located in the base of its neck, above the cockpit.

most of its systems relating to sensing and movement rely on cell-based processes (wet) whilst its structural components are mostly metal/plastic/ceramic (dry). its armour plating specifically is plastic deposited by bacteria that live inside the spongy cortex of each plate, which also allows it to self-heal.
still a WIP

ah what the hell i'll give you the robit

Digital sketch for a two page comic spread. Turns out Sonny is gawking at the titular Wyvern, a giant biomechanical, quadrupedal robot. It's still in the shop (ie hangar).

Still flowering again despite everything!

Big Dendrobium speciosum orchid in a pot. It’s grown some seriously girthy pseudobulbs. Last year I had one flower spike but this year its made TWO :)

Inferno! Defied my expectations! It’s nice to be proven wrong and listen to something much more optimistic than i was prepared for. Shockingly sounds a lot better on headphones than from the ceiling speaker of a humid record store lol but the poster is so sick

“Adrian you’re just biased bc it’s orange” ok true but what colours do we use to convey existential threats

Adrian @lead-castle.bsky.social · 13/05/2026

Which is why I think they’re making this one a little harder to misinterpret. Like we all agree this time that it’s straight up about Hell. I wonder if that has anything to do with all the wars and environmental destruction and crimes against humanity of the past 13 years

I’m placing my predictions now that Inferno will be the Existentially Angry Boards of Canada Album

Comic page WIP in greyscale. A sequence showing a shuttle docking at a huge space station, which I modeled roughly in 3D using Nomad Sculpt.

Been sculpting a generic canine bust to try and distill how I do furry head/facial anatomy + create a usable reference

Screenshot of nomad sculpt showing a WIP cg sculpture of a generic dog furry in a semi realistic style, 3/4 view. Theres a default human mannequin to the right.

Everyone knows this by now but the downgrade in scifi covers is so real sometimes

My 1991 edition of Use of Weapons next to my 2025 edition of Consider Phlebas, both by Iain M Banks.

These Haynes manuals have to be my favourite reference sources rn not just because I kinda love the gimmick but they are packed with high quality colour photographs and information. and seem to come up in op shops a fair bit which is even better

Slapped some colour + a new crop on this comm, which i know will get totally mangled by compression, but that wont stop me from painting in monochrome red

Digital art of an anthro husky in a bulky spacesuit, standing in a dark corridor. He holds a bright red flare aloft in one hand, the only source of illumination.
