Birthday birdies in Rouge River Park, Toronto. What a glorious day it was for paddling and #birding!

This juvenile Night Heron was a lifer for me! And on my birthday! What a gift. Taken while kayaking on the Rouge River, in Canada’s urban National Park, in the east end of Toronto. #backyardbirding #birding #urbanbirding #naturephotos

This fledgling Cardinal is 1 of 2 in the 4th brood of a pair nesting in our hedge. She’s so young she doesn’t have her tail feathers yet. If you look closely there’s a tinge of red on the tip of her tail and the edge of her wing. All taken in my central #Toronto backyard. #birding #backyardbirding

A very tiny bird with a very loud call, I’ve been listening to the Warbling Vireo for almost two weeks. Finally was able to catch a glimpse and grab a couple of shots. #birding #backyardbirding #LakeSimcoe #Pefferlaw

Spending time finding birds and then trying to capture shots of them is my escape from the world. Literally putting my head in the clouds! Took these on my walk yesterday. #Pfefferlaw #LakeSimcoe #Birding #BackyardBirding

This is what @cupescfp.bsky.social supports. As a former labour union leader, as a woman, as an ally to to #LGBTQ+ people, I simply cannot understand the anti intellectualism permeating the left. #SMH

This is the illusive (to me anyway) Marsh Wren. I heard it all spring last year but never caught a glimpse. Yesterday the same. They usually tuck themselvess well away in the reeds. But today this buddy graced me with a full view and serenade! #Birding #LakeSimcoe

Collective nouns for a group of ravens include a "conspiracy", a "treachery", a "rave" and an "unkindness"; a rare sighting for mid town Toronto. Under the Bathurst St bridge in Cedarvale #birding #backyardbirding #naturephotos

Cedarvale Valley, once slated to be a roadway, is filled with lovely birds instead! #middtowntoronto #backyardbirding #birding Yellow Warbler, Olive Sided Flycatcher (a Lifer!) and female Red Winged Blackbird were just the few I saw of the many, many I heard today.

“Happy Jewish Heritage Month”, she said, dripping with sarcasm & anger, & in a state of deep sadness & hurt. Not shock though. This was predictable - and predicted. Radicalization is born of the kind of unchecked hate speech that has been allowed for the past 18+ mos. May their memory be a blessing

Midtown Toronto today, I heard a distinctive and not the usual suspect call coming from the back yard. Quickly, quietly I made my way outside and was lucky enough to catch this shot of a Grey Catbird in our hedge! #birding #backyardbirding

Much has been reported about Cifu’s response but little has been said about the Toronto fan’s remark which was clearly antisemitic. How? By inferring Cifu - a Jewish person - is responsible for Israel’s actions in Gaza by virtue of raising starving children. It’s subtle but it’s clear.

So many people say Israel is solely to blame for Gazans’ suffering. But so few call out Hamas for terrorizing Gazans & stealing their aid. It’s almost like they don’t care about Gazans, just about villifying Jews.

Hi. A personal column this week. Pope Francis’s death got me thinking about Catholic school & whether Ontario should fund them at all. Flags are a small symbol but miracles to my Gen X eyes. Life would have been different if they flew when I was in Catholic school. Please read & share.

Shawn Micallef: As Pope Francis’s successor is chosen, it’s worth asking this question about Ontario’s Catholic schools

There are good reasons why the flying of the Pride flag outside schools matters.

I'll say it again - the Postmedia news empire, 140 'Canadian' newspapers controlled by a Trump-supporting US hedge fund, all speak with one Conservative voice on election day, even selling their front pages to look like 'news'. Don't be fooled. #cdnpoli www.postmedia.com/brands/

During Holocaust Remembrance Week, Nazi flags were displayed in Sweden. Jews are saying antisemitism has reached its worst point since the 1930s. It’s time to listen! How much clearer does it need to be? Will the world really wait for a second Holocaust to take action?

Holocaust survivors and survivors of Hamas captivity prayed for the hostages and sang Hatikva together at Auschwitz today. Two generations, victims of the same antisemitism, still standing. If this isn’t Jewish resilience, I don’t know what is. Am Yisrael Chai. 💙
