This didn't happen by random chance of the market or some neutral development of technology. The game industry, like many industries, figured out how to outsource all the risks and costs of production onto the aspirational while capturing their own cut as rent. Game devs are uber drivers now.

the quickest and easiest way to open a bottle of wine is to smash it on the ground. if you don't know enough about the world to evaluate that as a bad outcome then yeah you could happily go through life that way believing you had a magic bottle opener! ai tools mostly make apparent the true issues.

also it's the same old convo but even ignoring that most people don't actually really seem to like art that much, games are given even less leeway to here. like people are largely mostly only okay with thinking about difficulty in the Dark Souls sense but not in most other senses

totally. I usually defend 'grinding' in games as a form of "quantity time" which is literally making this thing a larger part of your overall life thru time spent. I don't know if chess is a good example though.

I didn't get the sense that stuff like that is for "addiction" purposes. but yeah fetch quests are a time-wasting device from mmo era where they had to justify charging a monthly fee. that design is closer to baggage claim being far away from gate so people don't complain about waiting for bags.

I think this distinction doesn't matter. it comes down to positioning, like whether the person who made it calls it a 'game' or some other noun is just part of the thing. I feel like I (personally) used to approach/evaluate things based on their 'new media spectrum position' and now I don't lol

Anti-Semitism and any form of racism has no place on campus and in this movement,” Khalil said, noting that some members of Columbia’s encampment are Jewish and held Passover seders earlier this week, led by Jewish Voices for Peace.
“They are an integral part of this movement,” Khalil said of the organization.
