The first 2 jiu jitsu classes I went to I got really emotional that the men were being patronizing to me by not putting me into submissions but now I realize that they just couldn’t lol

Really really enjoyed the sacred harp all day sing today 😍 last year I thought 2 hours of singing was really pushing it but this year I actually wish I stayed for longer. Evidence of going to the weekly sings even just for like 2 months a long time ago… effort accumulates

Had this life changing sandwich at Cafe Santropol in Montreal and then recreated it for lunch with Trader Joe’s ingredients Pumpernickel, whipped cream cheese, chopped olives, walnuts soaked in hot honey, and ham. It’s perfect. Fluffy and crunchy! Balanced! Beautiful!

Lately I’ve been feeling sort of unlocked in my ability to actually take advantage of the incredible time of abundance we live in. I can read so many books. I can buy so many materials. I can follow barn dancers and Buddhist ink painters and factory owners and gardening grandmas online

I've been so lucky as to never have had things stolen from me by a stranger before, so it's a very weird feeling! Like woah, I just don't have this thing anymore! It just makes me want to be prolific enough where loosing a week of drawings/paintings is no big deal!! Maybe furious drawing awaits.

lol my car got broken into in Montreal Though I had a feeling and hid my laptop under the seat and kept my valuables on me…. Now whoever it is has my backpack which is only full of drawings and a collection of Yeats which I have not read yet. Sad for me but probably useless for them. c’est la vie

Just realized that today is my 11-year NYC anniversary! I guess this is how I'm going to be spending it. I love this city. This slice of time as been wild: my prefrontal cortex supposedly solidified, and I witnessed NY before, during and after covid, among many other things

A lot of things that are normally dangerous for the uninitiated are totally (mostly) safe when doing it alongside an expert who can intervene. So if you find yourself in a situation where some expert is offering some sort of trial/experience should absolutely take it

I made the crappiest possible travelers notebook in an hour or so with dubious online materials and a boxcutter and I’m very happy with it hahah The primary feature being that you can insert interchangeable different booklets in and out of the cover with the elastics!

I recently re-read Ursula K. Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness, and a specific passage stuck in my mind. For context, two characters are discussing the corrupt, bureaucratic capital city of Mishnory. Here it is.

To oppose something is to maintain it.

They say here "all roads lead to Mishnory." To be sure, if you turn your back on Mishnory and walk away from it, you are still on the Mishnory road. To oppose vulgarity is inevitably to be vulgar. You must go somewhere else; you must have another goal; then you walk a different road.
