I’m thrilled to reveal the cover for my next book, NEWTON’S PAWS OF MOTION, coming from Sourcebooks Explore 5/2/27 (pre-order now)! Isn’t it adorable? All credit for this brilliance goes to the illustrator, Karen Obuhanych, and the cover designer, Sarah Boecher. #STEMEducation

TFW when you visit the Royal Danish Library to see the exhibits, but they’re all closed for a special music weekend, so instead you’re forced to “make do” with a latte, a rhubarb truffle, and a beautiful view, while listening to a lovely, live classical music performance. 🤷‍♀️

When my kids were younger, the last weeks of summer before school started were pure chaos, as I tried to cram in more time for fun, back-to-school shopping, and curing summer slide. I wish I could go back in time and tell myself to relax, breathe, and simply enjoy: self-care FTW, for all of us.

I ended the school year with 3 days of author visits Woodridge Elementary. I presented “Truths and Lies” to grades 3-5 on the 1st day, then saw K and 1st grade for interactive read-alouds of all 4 books from the Meet Your World Series. So much fun!

Writing can be a solitary and often thankless career. Comments like this make it all worth it! I'm so happy this little guy loves the Meet Your World series. 🥰
"Just wanted to drop a quick line to say that my little guy LOVES these books. We got Honey Bee from the Dolly Parton Imagiation Library project. It was sweet to see that even at 10 months, he would pick the book out of a little bookshelf of about 20 or so books, bring it to me and sit in my lap, waiting for me to read it to him again. Unfortunately this one was paperback (not the most suitable for little guys - lesson learned, though!) so he wore it out in a month or two, but he loved it so much that I bought him a replacement board book. Recently we also got him the Snake and Raccoon books, which are hits, too. Thanks for writing these!"

This middle-grade nonfiction book is absolutely stunning: lovely text in verse, love, adventure, science, sidebars, survivor stories, illustrations/photographs/design, and in-depth backmatter. I couldn't put it down. Highly recommended!

What is the point of these, and why am I suddenly getting at least ten a day? I’m starting to think the biggest threat of AI to creatives is how much of our time it sucks up into the void just to dodge all the scams! 🤬
A screenshot of an email, which reads, “Hi Laurie,

I tried leaving a review for your book on Amazon, but it didn’t seem to go through on my end. I’m not sure what happened.

Before I try again, do you have a Goodreads link or another place where I can share my review? I’d really like to make sure you get the feedback.

Looking forward to your reply!

Best Regards,
Sarah”

I'm thrilled to share my latest book deal, a humorous STEM picture book inspired by my very own cat (and his many "experiments")! I couldn't be luckier than collaborating on it with Justin Krasner and Karen Obuhanych (go look up her cat illustrations right now). I'm still pinching myself! 😃
Headshots of author and illustrator, with the following text: "Justin Krasner at Sourcebooks eXplore has acquired world rights to Newton's Paws of Motion, a humorous picture book take on the fundamental principles of physics as seen through the eyes of a curious cat and his exasperated family, written by Laurie Ann Thompson (l.) and illustrated by Karen Obuhanych. Publication is set for May 2027; Ammi-Joan Paquette at Aevitas Creative Management represented the author, and Anne Moore Armstrong at the Bright Agency represented the illustrator."
