Robots are pretty quickly becoming more capable and affordable. If you think this won't impact the labor market, you're engaging in cope, and if you don't think we should all benefit from robot labor via universal basic income as a fair GDP dividend, you're helping billionaires become trillionaires.

Just got an email from Meta telling me to buy their CMO’s new book on marketing. Motherfuckers, it should be free. You pirated my book into your AI. Now you want me to pay to learn how to “market” and wear gold chains? They really think we’re that stupid.

And nobody on Threads wants to hear it because it’s easier to have a mob mentality than it is to come up with a solution. I feel very much like I did in 2007 when I stopped working in Human Resources. Everybody comes to this conversation with immovable data and opinions. Nobody listens.

The jobs report, combined with the record earning statements from technology companies, confirms my own research, reporting and beliefs that the future of work has nothing to do with workers. Nobody in my @linkedin.com community wants to hear it because everybody is looking for a 20th century job.

American food companies could spring into a to action and say, “Nobody goes hungry on our watch.” American leaders could jump at the chance to raise wages, hire people, build skills, and make sure workers have health insurance, no matter what. They can actually afford to do this, but they won’t.

One in four workers in the US is now “functionally unemployed,” meaning they either want but can’t find full-time work or are stuck in poverty-paycheck jobs. A higher minimum wage alone can't solve this because it would increase automation and decrease hours. We need a universal basic income floor.

7/ You’re not broken. Nothing is wrong with you. You’re available for work. This is not a reflection of your soul. You will arrive at “what’s next” a little faster when you can let go of an ex-employer who is not calling to take you back, no matter how much you want it to. /end

4/ If you’re meeting with others who’ve been laid off, fine. But make it useful. Trade leads. Talk about what you’re seeing in the market. Swap recruiter names. Treat it like a working session.

2/ Sometimes that community turns toxic fast. You sit around comparing wounds, rehashing stories, and measuring who was treated worse by your ex-employer. That’s not strategy. That’s stagnation.

1/ Tons of people have been laid off in the past few weeks. It’s rough. Your first instinct might be to find community with others who’ve also been let go. I get it. That can feel good. But it’s not always helpful.

AI isn’t just reshaping work. It’s unraveling the social contract. Corporations are cutting jobs and calling it progress. But using AI to squeeze more from fewer people isn’t innovation. It’s exploitation. And when it creates security risks and human fallout, it’s not just reckless. It’s immoral.

AI Is Not a Justification for Economic Cruelty
