80 hours of embroidery! This aerial landscape is directly inspired by Dartmoor and I'd say I have another 30-ish hours to go? I'm now starting to fill in the fields for the sheep, the tor area will be done last as I'm still deciding whether I want a slope or not 😅 I hope you like it! #art

Btw: I melt beeswax on the handmade paper after it dries. This makes the paper both more translucent and sturdier.

It’s my 3rd year on the Placer artists open studio tour. The tour gathers 1 art piece from ea. artist for a gallery show beforehand called Taste of the Tour. Finished this submission yesterday: handmade paper w/ my letterpress illustrations embedded to make a paper lantern w/ plants, feathers, etc.
A handmade paper lantern is pictured against a white backdrop. The paper lantern is angled to show 2 sides of 4 sides. Each paper panel has a previously printed letterpress illustration embedded in the center of the panel. The panels feature line drawings; an otter on one and a heron on the other. Each corner of the lantern is tied with manzanita branches found nearby with twine. Dried plants and live plants, as well as pebbles and feathers, are included in the panels of the handmade paper. A light source is emanating from inside the lantern.

Curiosity slayed me. I had no idea.
An Eggo brand jar of waffle-inspired cream liqueur with a Tennessee moonshine base featured in a promotional photograph. There are two glasses of the liqueur photographed from above with a tiny waffles and bacon within the glasses. There is a corner of an eggo waffle box in the lower frame.

I didn’t know it was possible but I did this 12-layer #linocut #reductionprint in 8 days (unexpected deadline). Based on the Seabird Drawing Week, drawing gannets on Bass Rock. This print will be on display at the Annual SWLA Natural Eye exhibition at Mall Galleries in London, 1-10 Oct. Excited!!

An excellent article; well-crafted and enlightening. I found the comment by Farid, an expert who investigates deepfakes, compelling: “The companies, he says, “will burn the fucking place to the ground.” A strong, if not surprising, sentiment made by an expert in the field.

Interesting you mention Unforgiven. I was pregnant when I watched that in ‘92. Came out of the theater crying & wondering how I could bring a child into such a world. Hormones + a tad dramatic of me, but I see I felt as you. It horrified me, but no one who went with me saw it the same way.

Scientists have discovered a tiny blue octopus lurking beneath the waters near the Galápagos Islands. About the size of a golf ball, the newly identified deep-sea species was found nearly 1,800 meters below the surface during an expedition in the Pacific Ocean.

I am always having so much fun with scale drawings. These images are usually depicted quite small on a page in books, there just to show the size of the animal. I love adding some extra details and funny situations to these. :) Here is a series I have just made for an upcoming book. #SciArt

The four boxes of liberty is a 19th-century American idea that proposes: "There are four boxes to be used in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and cartridge (or ammo). Please use in that order.”

Had two creative days with friends making stained glass yard art. I made a jellyfish for my son the oceanographer. The other photo is just some of the other creations made. Art with friends is highly appreciated and recommended right now.

Printing w/ my husband & awesome helper, (we make a good press team!). When using a treadle, even on a well-oiled platen press, we oldies get worn, so I appreciate him running it too. These are simple notecards on 220lb cotton paper using a transparent tint. The deboss of the flowers “chef’s kiss”.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give me such a great answer, I really appreciate it. I have been getting polymer plates at about $.60 a square inch. You are the first printer I’ve heard using a laser to create plates, so I was excited. I will definitely look further into obtaining a laser!

I love Bernadette’s sentiment. In this society, I often feel that way about my art. And honestly, if society dictates that creativity is second to the gods of profit, why not fill the unseen cracks with more meaningful authenticity? Why chase a mirage but never quench your soul?

Yes, and in the long form it’s even more yes: “We must do without hope,’ he said. “At least we may yet be avenged. Let us gird ourselves and weep no more! Come! We have a long road, and much to do.” - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Your post reminded me of one of my favorite comics that I use as wallpaper on my computer. My current mood is the same
Comic strip with the first panel showing a cat asking “Hey … You alright?”
The second panel shows a raccoon who is facing away saying, “I’m rabid”
And the final and third panel shows a close-up of a wide-eyed, rabid-looking raccoon with barred sharp teeth saying “FOR DEMOCRACY”. In the wide and wild eyes of the raccoon are the letters that spell out VOTE.
