Sad but not surprising.

While driving (in Reno), I had a green light while ready to turn right, but I was waiting for pedestrians, who also had a walk signal. There was a police car at the intersection. Someone behind me still honked at me.

For today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme of #BlueSkies. Hummingbirds in my chitalpa tree Reno, Nevada, USA, August 27, 2023.
Two hummingbirds bottom center. Lots of large pointed leaves on the left, a few on the right bottom half. Pink trumpet shape flowers at top left corner and in the center above the birds. Bright blue sky behind it all.

I know it's true after being born in a nondenominational Christian family and marrying into a Catholic family. It was never an issue since I was already atheist/agnostic!

The wild part of my back yard now. That's rabbitbrush, not sagebrush! The cottontails and quail/s thrive in it. The "bench" is from a cottonwood tree. Northern Nevada, USA #nativeplants
Shrubs with bright gold flowers across the center. Background is suburban fence with roof of a house behind it. Foreground is a bench size section of a thick tree trunk. Some rocks are on the right, and at the bottom of the photo are dead weeds.

But what if AI detection software like Pangram falsely accuses me of using AI?

This realization makes me wonder if we are heading into a future divided into writers and writing bots. In my opinion, real writers would have more value!

Discussion of AI in writing fascinates me because writing is part of me and I take pride in it. I use assistive AI (Word) in writing and editing. I scorn generative AI (ChatGPT et al.). I suspect that those who use the bots don't like writing. Gift link www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

"Begin" is clever. If you haven't received yours yet, it's still coming. You just weren't one of the first ones.

I've been scanning old photos. This one is from October 1993 at the Stonehouse Inn in Paradise Valley in Northern Nevada, USA.
A clump of several large cottonwood trees in a row. The ones on the left are turning yellow. There's a post and rail fence in front of them. Some smaller trees are on the left, and the Stonehouse Inn (white, two story) looks very small behind them. In the foreground is mowed dead weeds with a gravel driveway on the right.

The answer is easy: It's too much work. I learned that in the late '70s/early '80s. We had friends then, but none of them ever invited us to their homes. Same for relatives. Dinner parties are only for people who have hired help.

#birdoftheday #bestofthemonth I think this is a killdeer. Taken yesterday at Steamboat Slough, Reno, Nevada, USA.
Bird on shore against calm, light blue water in front of a stick in the water (stick is parallel to the shore). Bird's body is brown on top and white on bottom. Head is brown in helmet area with white face and neck and black beak. Black collar with a second collar just below it. Gray legs.

Totally agree. I see so many self-employed people who can't or don't want to pay into anything now. I have to hire people to work on my house, and many of the ones recommended to me don't have workers comp so I don't take the risk.

How about dialing back the close-up photography so we don't have to see people's teeth in detail? (I would not want you to see mine!)

The truly sad thing about all these scam posters on social media is that they prevent me from responding to what could very well be legit reader questions and requests. I can't trust any post anymore. How does one get around that?

My son texted from his cruise that the ship had been rocking for the past 12 hours and they put out the barf bags. They had to change the cruise itinerary to skip Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas and stop at Puerto Vallarta tomorrow instead. In case anyone is interested.

I live near a @tmfr.bsky.social station and just see the firefighters greeting me and my dog, washing their trucks, and generally doing nothing. I don't begrudge them any of that free time because I know they are willing to do this work at a moment's notice. They've had to do it this year for sure.

I love wedding cake, and when my son and his fiance wanted me to be specific, I said I liked buttercream frosting. The frosting seemed bland last night, and now I know why. I refrigerated my leftover piece, and today the "frosting" is thick, solid butter with a trace of sugar. Solid butter.

For the #BirdOfTheDay theme today of #LightAndShadow, a repost of a phone photo I took when taking my dog out while the sun was coming up. California quail/quails.
Birds lined up on top of a fence lit by sun across the center of the photo. The foreground is in the shade. You can barely see rabbitbrush and the head and shoulders of a dog looking at the quail. There are tamarisk trees with yellow foliage on the other side of the fence, also lit by the sun, and bright blue sky above them.

World Gratitude Day is new to me, and I love it. Personally, life is much more pleasant when you consciously appreciate the good things in it. I have many. My son was married yesterday, and everyone was gushing with gratitude. I was grateful for all of it. 😉

Against melting snow on grass covered with bird tracks, a great blue heron in the center foreground stalks from left to right. A flock of Canada geese is on the ground in the background.

Reject socialism starting with Medicare and Social Security. And some Boomers don't even realize (1) that's what they are and (2) they are in the early stages of being stamped out now. And at least some of us will live long to suffer from that.
